Do you think that starting the tour is the most high profile thing he can do? I'd assume most of the attention will be on Froome and Cavendish. He may get more attention by doing a BBC special pre-tour interview, or having a go at the world hour record, or something else that the marketing company cooks up. For example, Beckham didn't stop earning when he went to MLS even though that is a long way from the pinnacle of his sport.

1st British Tour winner, on the start line of the 2014 Tour starting in Britain, riding for a British team fielding last year's Tour winner and likely favourite this year, as well as himself?

    Yep.

Put it like this, his absence would be a massive missed opportunity.

The Hour Record means a lot to us. It means absolutely nothing to the British public. High profile management agencies like Fuller's, are about maximising the appeal, building the brand etc, amongst a much wider demographic than just the core client's area - in this case, cycling fans.

The Tour is going to be huge here this year. Absolutely enormous. Cant be underestimated.

It's also huge for the Tour to ride the slipstream of a more local hero for a non-specialist cycling audience.

Outside of the Olympics - its disproportionate coverage by the state broadcaster - this is as big as it gets for a British cyclist.

How do I get these %s?
I just picked four people on this thread, went to their posts, searched for sky, then divided that number by their total number of posts.

4% for me. Not sure if that's good or bad...

Those long Winter nights must just fly bye.

Just post loads of photos. That way you dilute your values across the board.

Being a terrible snob, this is one reason I'm glad I'll be emigrating this year. Imagine the swathes of replica kitted bankers on Pinarellos invading the North.

Well....better than them turning up in BMWs.

What would constitute a "Proper" cycling supporter to you? Just asking.

Nothing worse than inverse snobbery ... Or as I like to call it, jealousy ...

Then they'll just run into the Wildlings & WhiteWalkers...oops, wrong thread!

I fully acknowledge it's my own inadequacy and nothing to do with them.

I'm going all-in | Jaguars with Pinarellos on roof/tailgate & Rapha 'transfer blanket' on parcel shelf.

Thanks for advice on diluting scores. I'll be having words with the mods about privacy invasion. It's personal dynamite.

I will definitely be there, driving up in the Audi 4x4 with the Dogma on the back. Will probably fit some carbon fibre clinchers especially for the occasion.

On a more serious note, reading a recent Froome interview he explained away some of the weakness in the 2013 Sky TDF team as a result of several riders being over raced and tired prior to the start. Given Porte is expected to lead the Sky Giro team, then presumably Froome will rely on different back up in the hills this year. Signing Nieve will help, but may need other climbers as well?
