  • No just frame on its own
  • Cheers for the quick reply!

Mine arrived today and is starting to look sweet, I'm just having a few problems with the headset, did anyone else have problems getting it to fit right?

What brand headset have other people used?

    Ta
  • Fsa think mine is,with check in the morning and let u know
  • Cheers, I went down to the LBS yesterday and the specs they gave me are:

    41.8 outer
    45/45 sealed bearings
    1 1/8

I've got one on order so when it arrives I'll check the fit and update here
  • I actually built one of these for my wife last year...she loves it.

Only issue we had was the frame was out of true(square)

  • I'm thinking of going for one of these frames - seems like it might build up into a useful and quite light bike.

Regarding the bottom bracket fitting - is it an English or Italian thread? I'm looking to put on a SRAM double chainset and need to get the right GXP BB to fit.

    Ta very much

    English thread.
Xt c/set and BB fitted in with no probs on my frame.
  • Fantastic - thank you. How are you finding the frame, by the way? Happy with it overall?

Going great.have added a transparent film to the usual rub points to protect the frame finish
  • Thanks in part to the good info from this topic I managed to get my own SAB Arco build done today. All went together without fuss, with BB threads, headset cups and mech hanger apparently quite smoothly finished from the factory. Used the FSA headset (with 8mm stack) as recommended by On-One, and a standard GXP bottom bracket with one spacer each side of the BB shell seems to work out perfectly. The 20" size works out exactly the same, for BB to seat tube top and reach, as my size L Pitch Pro. I'm 6ft - it doesn't feel overly large, and definitely not long or stretched out.

The seatpost is an old Specialized 30.9mm one I had knocking about, with a USE 30.9>31.6mm shim. That appears to be plastic - I'm wondering if a smear of carbon paste might be beneficial on the outside of it. Rest of the kit bar the chainset is recent XT, wheels are ZTR Crests, and the forks Reba RLs.

Built-up weight, even with the pedals and bar-ends, is 23lbs. It feels even lighter than that when you're on it - road bike light - and goes like absolute stink. Looking forward to putting in a long ride on it after a couple of 'shakedowns'. Ought to shorten the too-long hydraulic runs at some point though. And must find a spare mech hanger - On-One don't have any. :(

My eyes are bleeding! The top tube/seat stays look very odd, and bar ends/riser bars?

Each to his own, I say. I absolutely love the way it's turned out, and not least for being a little different and unusual. We don't all have to behave like sheep. :D

Agreed, but that should exclude putting bar ends on riser bars. ;-)

Need to shorten your hoses too!

With a bit inspiration from this thread I built my first bike. It's not 100% done, steerer needs cut and general adjustments to be made but so far it's going great. Certainly a learning experience.

I'm wondering. What would I be looking at for minimum post insertion on the frame? Will I have to go all the way past the freakishly distant seat tube/top tube junction or should I be relying on the extra carbon supports around the seat tube for that?

If I need to go that far down it's going to be about 200mm of seat post. Comparing it to my shop bought alloy bike it's a gigantic difference. I'm looking to cut the thudbuster and still have the option of using it on this bike and manning up and trying a carbon post.

Thanks. I was hoping to get away with a 300mm post. The post I am looking at has a 90mm minimum insert leaving me just about what I need up top. I was just concerned about the 90mm insert not being enough for the geometry of the frame.
  • Hi all,

Old thread I know but not that much info around the interwebs on the SAB bikes, just completed my own build using the Skiros model from On One / Planet X

Would love to know how you guys who bought those above went on over time, any problems, any regrets ?

here's mine, mix of Deore / SLX on crossrides

    Nice look.
Mine is still ticking over nicely, used for morning rides up
Few wood paths and quarry that nearby.
I'll replace/upgrade as the parts wear out.
    Will use it as my
    spare bike at the puffer
  • :-) glad to hear it, they seem to be fun little bikes for a cheap build, thanks for the feedback.
