Tacx Flow/I Flow for a newbie

Hi all
I've just bought a tacx flow with the VR upgrade kit and was wondering if someone would be able to assist in a few of the set up questions I have...
Calibration of Brake - Lots written on this on the net but I'm still a bit unclear, I keep on getting a calibration reading of 13. Does the computer automatically compensate to give as realistic (I know the power outputs are not great) a power output as possible? If not then do I need to increase or decrease wheel tension to get it down to 0, tried both but don't see much change. (always warm up for 10 minutes before calibration). I know it should be showing at around 0-2.
Does the trainer need to be calibrated correctly for the RLVs to give an accurate representation of a ride, ie up Alp D'huez? Or does not calibrating simply mean the power readings will be out, but the effort required to complete the course will be the same.
I'm aware of 'virtual speeds' and the limitations of the brake. Daft question but can you overcome this by manually sticking the bike in a bigger gear to make it harder work, ie representing 9/10% climbs? Ie when the virtual speed kicks in can you stick it in a harder gear and pedal harder to bring it back to 'normal' speed?
thanks all
