Timing Training week

I can afford one week training in the Sun. i am looking to peak for a hilly sportive in late June.

In previous years i have trained well up until that date and perform reasonably well. Then i relax back on the training in July and August apart from Sportive every 2-3 weeks. I find myself at my fasted in late Aug early Sept

This year I can take a week away. i can not decide weather to go early to bet a base in, In late March early April (10-11 weeks before event) or go in Mid May (4-5 weeks before the event)

Does anyone one have any thoughts and/or advise

Expand a lung is only any use if you have some kind of breathing problem. If you don't - then its not a limiting factor.

And peaking for a sportif ? Its not a race - but anyway.I'd probably go with the earlier week away - only because we might have crappy weather then - we had snow last year in March - so you'd be better getting the miles in.

Pointless going abroad spending money if your intention is to train, for a fun cycling holiday fine. Early year you can not come back and maintain the same quality day in day out as you did abroad due to being at work and our cheery weather etc so you will return to pre holiday trained state further down the road. Training to improve is about regular consistent sessions not one off weeks.

So 13th Jan - you'd not bought it.

23rd Jan - you've bought it, used it and seen a great success with it ? How many days/times have you used it.

In what way has it worked ? Has your FTP improved ? Sliced ten minutes off your 25 time ? Kicked Froomeys ass on Ventoux ?

Don't agree with this. I was in Lanzarote last week and got in 23 hours of endurance runs in over 5 days. I would have struggled to get this kind of mileage in with a week off work here in Scotland recently given the weather, motivation and how much energy is used in endurance runs here just trying to keep warm. This is all part of my preperation for the start of the road season and can only see it as a benefit to overall base.
