Route not officially comfirmed but it's going to be this, apparently.
Still a couple of holes in the planning and I'm not sure if the last day is the TT or not.
Most importantly, the start is 10k from my place, and there's always a big ride (kinda sportive) the day before.

Sunday 9 March Mantes la Jolie to Mantes la Jolie
Monday 10 March Rambouillet to Saint-George sur Bauche
Tuesday 11 March Toucy to circuit de Magny Cours
Wednesday 12 March Nevers to Belleville sur Saône
Thursday 13 March Crèche sur Saône to Rive de Gier
Friday 14 March ? to Fayence
Saturday 15 March ? to Nice
Sunday 16 March Nice to Col d’éze

  • oooh, I have a soft spot for P-N. Every year I say I'm going to go to Nice for the final weekend. Maybe this year I'll shift my backside and do it.

Safe to assume the final day is a TT, I'd have thought....

They seem to call the TT, Nice-Col d'èze. It's not clear whether the first stage is a prologue or a looped road stage. I'm hoping for the later, purely for selfish reasons. I'd rather see the TT than a road stage, in the flesh.

    Love this race.

Who was found under a car a couple of season's back when they came off and went under it? An Astana rider I am thinking, but for some reason I can remember Haussler too.

I think it was Robert Kiserlovski.
    Went under a lorry.
Very wet day won by Rémy Di Gregorio?
    Stage 7, 2011.

The first stage should be 160km. It is too long for a prologue or ITT.

  • Didn't the late Xavi Tondo fall off at the finish line as well?
  • Went 2 years ago for Wiggo's first win of the season. Very laid back event, great day out, beautiful weather. Didnt manage to go last year, missus broke her arm 2 days before travelling, but will be back for 2014. Nibali racing so may draw a few good names in. Great sitting on the side of the hill watching the riaders off 1 by 1.

Ooooh glad Nibali is riding rather than TA as they are two different races.

I also love this race. Contador created such drama and excitement in this race on many occasions which is another reason to like it. Those were the days of real racing.

Ah, I love this race; the unofficial start of the European season. Always Sky+ it and watch it after getting home from work. Got the last 3-4 years still on my Sky box.

I know TDU, Qatar, and Oman have already happened, but this feels different.

He's having a go at the Tour of Flanders this year too. (As cobbles practice, mostly)

    Pointless.

    Boonen agrees.

Yeah, but he's someone who lives on cobbles. If you've never ridden on them, and then don't, the prospect of them can build into more of a concern than it merits. He won't learn much, but it will give him some confidence.

Sure, but comparing cobbles in Flanders to cobbles in Roubaix is like comparing Gouda with Stilton, saying 'well, they're both cheese..'

I'd say the Roubaix cobbles are stilton and the Flanders ones more Cambazola if you know what I mean

    My dream job.

Whatever the argument re the different cobbleage, fair play to Nibbles

No TT or hilltop finish apparently
  • Bah and Bah again
  • This route looks a bit bobbins to me.

Cue rush of riders all wanting to do T-A...

Personally I approve of the route. I've argued in the past that Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico need to be more distinct in nature with one catering to the GC riders and one to the classics riders. It makes no sense having two very similar races at basically the same time.

I approve too. TTs and MTFs shape the race in a certain way, where racing is controlled by those teams with GC riders who favour them. This format could lead to much more open racing, where tactically savvy and opportunistic riders have more of a chance.
  • I hadn't thought of it that way. Makes sense. Would have liked one uphill finish though.

  • still *sulking*

I wanted me a finish on Col d'Eze. Was even planning a weekend trip for it.
  • You can go to San Benedetto del Tronto instead. What's a mountain above Nice...

Compared to boring flat Adriatic coastal resort.

I mean look how lovely it looks:
