Riding/racing after a knee replacement?

As stated in the topic heading, does anyone have any experience with riding or racing after a (partial) knee replacement? My operation will consist of replacing the medial part of the left knee joint and reconstructing the ACL. The thing is I'm only 42 and I'm not ready to hang up my boots so to speak. Any advice or experience is most welcome.

Sadly guys I'm not only talking tendons and cartilage. Along with replacing the ACL I'm also looking at replacement of part of the joint with metal and plastic. This is the kind of op usually reserved for people 20yrs my senior and unfortunately they're not really designed to last me out as it were.0

I worked 20 years for a company that made surgical instruments, hip and knee implants etc, the advancement in knowledge is vastly improved from when the first hip operations were carried out ie 6 weeks in hospital at the outset and now nothing like that, they now get you active as soon as possible for hip joints.
IMHO the best thing to do is discuss your cycling with the knee surgeon or his team, you might be nicely surprised by the answers they give. Good luck with the operation.0 -

Aargh! I remember wincing when I saw that first time round. My cheerful orthopod told me after the last arthroscopic op that I'd need both knees replaced by the time I'm 60. Three and a bit years to get the most out of the original equipment then!0
