Best pedals for around £40?

Im looking at pedals as my next upgrade for my bike. The plastic ones on my commuter are crap, so i want to take my V8 copies off my MTB and put them on the commuter, and get a decent pair for the MTB.
I currently use the Wellgo V8 copies and they are really nice grip wise, and the bearings still spin nicely even though i got them 2nd hand and have used them alot. They just weigh so much, hence the reason why i dont want to buy another pair.
Im looking at a pair of pinned platform pedals for around the £40 mark that dont weigh alot and are ideal for XC riding. Does anyone have any recommendations? (Would also be happy if they came in red but its not a major concern )
So far ive seen these:
These are very very light but are apparently very small too, so im not too sure on them for that reason. Also the platform looks it would be quite far from the crank arm in comparison to other pedals.

Superstars look like the best ones so far, thanks everyone!0

Another vote for Wellgo MG1 here, lighter than the Superstars but don't look as good...0

These are a few quid cheaper than the SuperStars, but are exactly the same pedal...

I've got those on my hardtail, and the MG1's on my FS, if I ever destroy the MG1's, I'll be replacing them with the Carbon Cycles pedals, just prefer them for some reason.0 -
Nano thru-pins or MG1s. Nanos are a bigger and better platform in my opinion. but MG1s are lighter. For £37 - Nanos.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)
Giant Anthem X4 (2010) GT Avalanche 1.0 (2010)
Kingley Vale and QECP Trail Collective - QECP Trail Building0 -
For £30, MG1s.I don't do smileys.

I dont think they are even that good looking. They arent ugly but there are better looking pedals. The superstars look 10 times better. Especially in red ano.0

You mean pink ano?Cube Analog 2012 with various upgrades.0

superstar nano are pretty heavy though
these are lighter

MG-1s or Nanos will be fine - it's probably a question of which one looks best to you"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

if you hadnt been told that your original pedals were heavy, you would have never had a problem with their weight... shaving 50g off your pedals is going to make no difference to your ride...0

I prefer the 'engineered' look. Coloured pedals are just a bit too Toys-R-Us for me. As it happens I've had both the Saints and the Superstars delivered today. They're both sitting in their boxes on my desk as I type. The Saints are for my bike, the Nanos are for my 8 year old's Scott. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Especially red ones, once they've rapidly faded to pink...
There's some all MG1 copies on Ebay for £20 (UK seller) that I'm tempted to get for my Kraken.0 -

To a certain extent, it is I do like a bit of bling.Cqc wrote:if you hadnt been told that your original pedals were heavy, you would have never had a problem with their weight... shaving 50g off your pedals is going to make no difference to your ride...
What? No one told me they were heavy. I know they are heavy. I noticed it when i took them off my hussefelt cranks a while back. I thought all the weight was the crank arms (i received the pedals attached to the hussefelts) I was shocked to find that most of the weight was actually the pedals.
As i said in the original post, im keeping these pedals. Im taking the crappy plastic ones off my commuter and putting the v8s on there, and getting some decent pedals for my MTB. So im not just trying to do a straight swap to save weight.Angus Young wrote:I prefer the 'engineered' look. Coloured pedals are just a bit too Toys-R-Us for me. Ive got a red colour scheme on my bike, so i just want to stick with it. Red FTW.0 -

Mind you, having said that, I bet my next bike has coloured pedals and I'll have to eat my words! All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.
