Training Camp timing

Hi,

I've got the oppourtunity of going on a weeks training camp in Marjorca, and am wondering about timing it in line with my (homemade) training plan and priority races.

I'm following the periodisation model of base 1, base 2, base 3, build 1, build 2, peak and finally race, where all sections are 4 weeks long with the 4th week being a rest week, except for peak and race which are 2/3 weeks long.

Where would the best place in that plan be to get maximum benefit?

My plan is based around 10-14 hours a week, and for the training camp I suspect I'd be riding more like 30-35 hours.

As things sit at the moment it would probably be somewhere between build 2 and peak.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

For what it's worth I agree. That will be your peak, and you'll probably need to taper to get fresh for racing after that.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Don't over-think it. Just go on the training camp and get some regular rides in some decent weather. 30+ hours sounds a lot though, compared to where you are at now.
  • I am going to Majorca next week on the back of a cold over Christmas/New Year and really not feeling particularly strong at the minute, so part of me wishes I was going in Feb instead, but I will still get 5 days of quality riding in, something I'm not guaranteed here in the UK!

Don't add so much volume to your training though, 75%-100% increase is madness. You could do more harm than good. 20 hours of quality riding and good rest too will be more beneficial.

    Thanks for the replies.

I agree ref 35 hours, that was bad maths, loosely based on 5 hours a day for a week. In reality there will only be 6 days available to ride, I'm sure one of those 6 will be a virtual rest day and I doubt the remaining 5 will all be at 5 hours.

So in reality I'm probably looking more up to 25 hours. See how it goes.

Has anyone managed to fit a wheel (powertap) into a suitcase? I think I need to find an old fashioned more square case as all the modern versions seem to be too rectangular!

How did you spend those 22 hours and what made them so productive?

25 will be more doable and you'll get more out of it. I had a week in Majorca last year and had the best most productive 22 hour week imaginable, but some people do 35 hours+ and it's just crazy, very little benefit.

So, what did you do, to have such a great week? would be great to know!

High quality riding, lots of hard climbs at a hard effort, mixed in with lots of high quality rest!

this was my training camp last year. I am off to Majorca mid march this year, a bit later than last year so will drop the hours a bit but increase the intensity and add in some intervals

I liked on the link and thought by some strange co-incidence you lived really close to me. Then I realised that the link took me into my own strava calendar for Feb 2013!!

Can you send an athlete specific link, or let me know what name to look up?!

    Cheers!
