Where are my gluteus going?

Hi,

Posting this in the roadie side of things even though I'm an mtbr as they don't tend to respond to fitness questions too well...

I ride a moderate ammount of xc (5-6) hours a week (2 rides) and I'm 6ft2 and 76kg. My fitness is rapidly improving but my gluteus are disappearing rapidly, so much so that my jeans are no longer staying up.

Is this common?!

I tend to spin the climbs rather than grind them out and have a 56bpm resting and 193 max heart rate (29 year old).

Anything I can do to stop becoming a flagpole?

I doubt it's your glutes that are disappearing. It's far more likely to be fat.

No amount of pedalling harder is going to build mass there. It's a choice between performance and aesthetics. For performance, continue what you're doing, and for aesthetics, you need to squat.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

  • Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Being so skinny I never thought I would have fat on my ass but I guess that would explain it.

Seen as squats do not agree with me I guess I will just have to live with it!

    Cheers again.

Maybe look into glute activation exercises?
