Trainer road music matching

Ok, so I have a turbo, and I have trainer road set up. Tomorrow I do the FTP test and then start doing workouts.

I am used to spinning classes where the workout pace is somewhat tied into the best of this music and I find that has helped me keep the pace up.

Are there any special playlists that have been made to match the trainer road workouts or do I have to play DJ myself?

You will have an idea what you will be able to push when doing the warm up, I try and stick to a cadence and not look at the power to much as that moves around. So if you can do 200watts at a cadence of 90 and you think you can hold that for the 20min aim for that, you can always increase decrease as you are in the interval.

Then just set the iPod to shuffle.
  • Thanks, but what about the other workouts?

The thing is with TR you have the power targets to hit, so your not going to ride most of them like a spin class.

Just put on something you like and try and follow the workout as close as you can.

I'm finding I can watch TV on the ipad - listening to the dialogue and watching the power levels on the TR - seems to work well and it beeps to remind you you're changing intervals.
  • I can't concentrate on anything if I'm doing a hard workout. If easy, I read a book on my iPad.
If I'm not doing a Sufferfest, I use www.di.fm and put a trance channel on. I don't usually listen to trance, but it helps me just zone out when working hard.

    Bose

Just been looking at the Bose Companion 3's on Flea bay (most are in the States) bit pricey for the shed/ suffercave but Im getting hacked off wearing headphones (too sweaty) are the considerably cheaper JBL'S any good.
  • I use some sports ear pods, ones that hold on to the ears and are not too big. I'm not worried about great sound, just being able to zone out.
I also find that you need to turn the volume up too much if you use speakers to hear over the turbo. The headphones also mask the turbo sound a bit.

I second the bose if you want a speaker, but I prefer head phones to really zone out.

I tried speakers but its much better to use big headphones (not crap in ear ones)
These cancel out the noise of the turbo/chain etc.. and you only hear the music. You can zone out then & forget that your legs are spinning 100rpm

I've tried loads of music, lots of things can work. Dubstep was far too slow for me, some drum & bass was ok but Hardstyle or Hardcore works best for me. Probably because its 175bpm - about the same as my average heart rate on the turbo lol

Put some Dutch Gabber on, stick it in the 53x11 and ride to the beat.

I've been mucking about putting my own turbo session together on youtube. The problem you have is the copyright on the music.

Plenty of playlists for spin classes on the web, with training notes. e.g.

    http://spinningmixes.wordpress.com/
    http://spinningmusic.wordpress.com/
    http://movemewithmusic.wordpress.com/
    http://spincycles.wordpress.com/

But you can't use your turbo like a spin bike or you'll probably do some damage.

I quite like Rudimental and The Prodigy for turboing.
