  • Like the look of that. Remedies seem to like running Pikes.

With regards you running a pike on the front, what have you dont about the travel? Left it at 160? Down to 150/140??

Its a potential upgrade im looking at, so just wondering really..

The 26" Remedy ran 150mm travel front and rear so I would guess at either 150mm or 160mm up front. Ours are 140mm but I went with a 150mm Pike on mine to make it feel closer to my old 26" Remedy. I rode a friends Remedy 9 yesterday with the new Fox 34 and we both agreed that the Pike felt like the better fork after swapping bikes and that the 150mm felt a good option. He was surprised how different mine felt to his though. Also the new Re:Aktiv rear shock works very well - can pedal hard out of the saddle wide open with very little bob. Impressed.

    Hi guys,

So yeah it was originally 150mm, i opted for the 160mm Pike in order to slacken ever so slightly, i guess it raised the BB a very small amount but i dont notice. Dropped the bars down a spacer to allow for the extra height on the front. I am going to fit an angleset in the next couple months to get the final geo i am looking for, although it runs very well at the moment.

The pike is truly phenomenal, i have had 3 rides since fitting it but yesterday was the first real test. Did the blue XC loop in the Forest of dean hitting PR's on all of it. I never felt i could get enough speed to really test the bike. So i went and hit one of the DH tracks, shepskull. Never felt like the fork was out of place although the rear shock couldnt keep up with the performance of the front so i oculdnt push too hard.I am so impressed with it though.

Rear shock is next up on list. I have the DRCV RP23 w Boost valve that came on the bike but it needs a service, hence why i put the rp3 on. I think ill get it properly serviced and tuned for maximum performance. I wouldnt be able to fit the r:aktiv shock would i?? I imagine it would be a different stroke and i2i???

    Cheers mate.
I was super stoked when i first saw it.
£100 for strip, coat and lacquer. All done in 2 weeks so pretty reasonable although they were pretty lax on the masking.

Paint shops are always lax when it comes masking bikes

Still, a great deal for a high quality finish!

Ive wanted that colour scheme ever since i saw the Cove Banshee in yellow and black.

Charge saddles do a custom saddle builder, a custom yellow and black saddle would really set it off but just trying to convince myself a basic saddle is worth £70.
Does anyone have any experience riding a charge spooon????

It's an O.K. saddle, just about as comfortable/uncomfortable an any I've ridden, but it hasn't lasted well. The surface is wearing away badly around the stitching after only about 8 months. I wouldn't buy another one. The only thing that might mitigate in the saddle's favour is that the bike has lived out doors, so perhaps no saddle would have survived that.
All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Yes, just about everyone. It's a good saddle for 80% of the population.

Great effort but PLEASE take the "XC" out of the title of the thread. It really isn't an XC bike!!

Fair point, it started out being more XC than anything but has developed into an AM rig.

Thanks for feedback on the spoon.....
I have a WTB Rocket that i find fairly comfortable.

  • Had an awesome day at Snowdon. Weather was very harsh up the top with 70mph winds but did manage to make the top, dspite everyone on their way back down telling me to turn round!

Im really loving the bike. The pikes make the world of difference, they inspire confidence and its twice the bike with them on. I knew they would be great but they have surpassed my expectations, if youve been thinking about getting some then just do it.

    Here are a few pics:

Id recommend snowdon to anyone, its an absolutely amazing descent, we had to do the llanberis back down (due to weather and the fact my mate didnt make it all the way up so i was on my own) which, depsite people saying it was boring, was amazing. Not boring at all, plenty of rocky bits and fast flowy bits too. Loads of variety. Give it a go.

I have a video on my page too:
    http://www.facebook.com/GFM2005

Loads of other videos on there too.

Next upgrades for me are (yes im never satisfied, problem with being an Engineer by trade) a Can creek angleset to just slackn it out slightly, followed by getting the rear shock up to spec. I have a DRCV RP23 w boost valve that needs a service so gnna get service and custom tune to match the pike up fron. the current DRCV is actually a really good shock, bottomless and supple but gets hung up when the going gets rough.

Im scared of running out of things to upgrade but i think a 1x11 will be next after that. SHould keep me out of pocket for another year.

  • Cadair idris is pretty fun too on the way down if you've not done it, but the top is pretty gnar.

Search Dan Atherton cadair idris if you get interested. It's not a whole lot smaller than snowdon.

I think the video is called 'Welsh Backcountry' route goes up the pony path.
  • I have so much love for this bike. Few small changes still to be made but nothing major.
Colour coded saddle to come at christmas and i think im going to have to change the wheels, the hub are just terrible, they both have play in them and require too much maintenance.

Anyway, here is a short video i made up on my local trails this saturday. Its an area in cheltenham called cleeve hill and, IMO, its one of the best places to ride but then i am biased. you can easily do 10-15 mile loops around different parts of it.
    Enjoy:

Nice to see videos that aren't just 10 minutes of trail from a helmet mount, good job. Snowdon looks sick.

Like the bike, I'm on the fence about Pikes at the moment... will they be £500 better than my Revs....hmm...
  • Cheers mate thank you.

Well i had Float 32's before and the pikes are definitely £500 better than those, i have gained so much more confidence since switching, to the point where i will try things i wouldnt previously. But i have no experince on the revelations so i honestly couldnt compare. Although i will definitely recommend the pikes.

  • Picked some Pikes up from CRC for £441. They arrive tomorrow but going to wait till after Winter to fit them I think, but can't wait to see how they feel after the 32 floats.
