Hey guys!

I am going to organise a ride at cannock chase on the 26th (Sunday) of january!

Planning it in advance with a view to getting a few together for more of a group ride!

Plan is to meet about 10:30? times can change if they need to, and get a full days riding in just doing both trails a couple of times, stopping at some point mid way for snackage!

Would be nice to meet some new riders so we can meet up for riding more often and get some more planend!

Look forward to hearing from you!

Wicked got a good group now! Sunday is the day I'd say! If that's ok for everyone... I guess provisionally we can meet In the car park at 10:30am if this is ok for everyone? I'll edit the original post. I'll be in a silver vectra but if anyone wants my number just private message me. If anyone needs a lift I have limited space but am going from The DE72 area

It is a good ride and if you are up for doing both the follow the dog and the monkey trail you will know you have done it at the end....

    What bike do you have??
If you can do a full lap without pushing you will have done well if you are as unfit as I am.....lol

Got a gt avalanche 1.0,just wanted something for a start and got it for less the £500 on wiggle! Same bike was nearly £800 in Evans cycles and it's not bad spec for a begineer!
Got a scott sportster hybrid that I used to ride around watermead and down the canal collecting dust in the shed!!
Trying to get bit fitter, weather not helping, you know your out of shape when the dog walkers pass you!!
  • id be up for this - though completely unhealthy but full of enthusiasm lol

Is there still any chance of a lift from De72 ? im only down the road in SPondon but only have a saloon car so no chance of getting the bike in it or on it yet

You should be fine doing the full route but once we get to the decision point where the route splits you can either go onto the monkey trail or carry on round the follow the dog route. Even then there are two options for the Monkey trail. If I am not feeling the love I will miss the first half out and do the fire road climb up to top cliff. If you dont feel up to doing the Monkey trail I dont mind doing the follow the dog as you can get another lap in without killing yourself......

Ozthecoz same for you... If you want to do the shorter route or just plod and keep going to do the full route I am sure us unfit guys can drag our asses round and do a full lap or two of the follow the dog if you dont feel up to the Monkey trail... lol

Should have room for one if needed ? coming from Long Eaton, sounds as though some of us are in the "older" category ?the only hill i ever struggle on is the fire road climb on the dog "Cardiac hill" i think it is called :)

    thanks for the advice more-power!
Will just be happy to ride for a bit, just out to enjoy the riding and hoping the fitness will come with that!
So any suggestions you have about riding cannock are much appreciated!! I imagine cannock chase will be busy so that might help to give us a breather.
    what bike are you riding?

If we are meeting at Birches Valley car park the post code is WS15 2UQ parking is £4 for all day.

40ish best advice is enjoy it !,if some one is ragging your back wheel let them pass when it is safe to,if some obstacles look a bit daunting have a good look at them and if still not sure about tackling them ? ride around them, everything is well signed on the trail and marked as red/black,black being more technical than red.It is all doable but there is no shame in getting off the bike and pushing :),hell i have been riding years and still get off to push every now and then !

No problem.. I have a HT Orange Crush... I just hope I dont have a stomach bug again.... Did a ride today round Sherwood Forest, (not sherwood pines but off piste and on trails left by horse riders and locals who ride round there, and I was running on empty all the way round and threw up at one point... Not fun... lol.

Cannock should be Ok and not be too muddy or cause any problems for you just ride round at your own pace as it will get quicker the more you ride.. Cardiac Hill is a killer usually not because you cannot ride it but because it is so early in the ride and you are not warmed up or have done too hard too soon and not paced yourself... If you have never done it then you dont know and may struggle.. I usually take my time early on and keep some form of pace I can keep up for most of the ride and if I feel good towards the end will go quicker on the run back into the visitor centre... lol
