Bllox. I refer to the below. 10 million Belgians can't be wrong!
I think Eddy was fond of a drink and if he wasn't a "proper" cyclist I'm firked if I know what is.

Are you lot serious!? Bragging about how many units of alcohol you can handle every week? It's medical fact that it's going to pickle your liver and be associated with numerous other health issues. This is known because the doctors you deride have conducted many evidence based studies. What makes you think you're immune!? Everyone knows some old codger who smokes every day and drinks whisky at breakfast but for every one of them there's hundreds that suffer from debilitating illness. Even common sense would suggest drinking huge amounts of alcohol is going to fck you up eventually and as it happens, years of unbiased medical research backs it up.

Oh no, what a shame. Humans not doing what's best for their body, news flash!

I rather enjoy retiring to the drawing room after dinner to enjoy a port or two and a serious discussion.
I don't see any reason why I should stop that little slice of heaven.
Even after a bottle or two of fine wines during dinner, and particularly as I am often in the company of doctors.

    We even have cigars! Huzzah!
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

But what is the evidence based on? (Other half was a liver transplant surgeon). They can see the damage done to a liver and they can ask/guess how much alcohol that person has consumed - but due to lies/not having a clue it is at best a wild guess.

The 'safe' number of units has 2 figures; one for men an one for women - really? Can a 7 stone bloke really safely dink 1/3 more than a 20 stone woman? And that is before you take race/genetics into account. Even for 'similar' people what causes cirrhosis in one will have no effect on the other.

In the same vein as '5-a-day', (other nations research have suggested between 3 and 7 a day, and veg is better than fruit...) the figures are almost meaningless, it just seems that most people are incapable of being reasonably healthy/not actively damaging their health without having a target figure set in stone. And even then all they do is ignore it!

So doctors will berate you and med insurance companies will jack up your premium if you drink 22 rather than 21 units a week, but without doing research on you as an individual it is pretty meaningless..

Having said that in a week at uni I hugely surpassed Bond drinking only during 7-11pm and only beer, which is much harder due to bloating (85 pints).....

Well I'm not entirely sure but I imagine your wife would be able to tell you where the link between alcohol and liver disease comes from.

I agree that guidelines are not always ideal for everyone but they are only a guideline after all and science is not static. As new evidence/thinking emerges, so the guidelines will change, hence we don't tend to let blood to cure a fever these days.

I think Sir Wiggo would disagree!
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
