Social Turbo training with realtime stats

Here's an idea... how about team turbo training competitions - everyone uses their iPhone with Strava app (or similar) to record data with everyone following the same workout and starting at the same time - then data gets uploaded as its recorded and rider can see the realtime stats vs the other riders doing the synced TT session.... good idea? Possible? Surely it is... anyone seen anyone do it before?

Maybe... but is the technical approach possible? would be nice to race from your own home in the deep dark winter nights!0 -
Surely this is already a thing?
Just put the wrong power curve in for the trainer and you're unstoppable!
Tour of Sufferlandria? It's not realtime racing, but instead I guess its about TSS. Assuming everyone is using roughly the right FTP calc'd from their trainer, and then competing on that trainer, then the TSS should show who worked out hardest. Still not overly accurate though. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

I think this is pretty much trainerroad - linking up all kinds of different turbos - recording their workouts and having them available to share.0

Loads of people doing this already with various technology such as using Tacx software, see

You can also do it with Virtual Trainer PC software (and soon ipad) app using any ergo trainer which can be contrlled over bluetooth/ant such as a Wahoo Kickr.
I've not raced on it yet as I'm awaiting the update to the ipad app but I can race routes (ie segments) similarly to Strava.
I tend to ride real courses indoors at the weekends and stick to structured interval training mid week.0 -
Thanks guys - will look into this - I run a bog standard CycleOps trainer so nothing clever being tracked by the trainer - I use my Forerunner 305 to collect the data0

Trainer road seems to be something that might work...0

If you ride the Strave segments on a Wahoo Kickr usingtheir app then that only registers your workout locally and therefore you dont see anybodies turbo workout times.
I did read somewhere that Strava might be thinking of running a virtual workout app in parallel to the actual one that exists now - that would be fantasic - although open to cheating/abuse if anybody wanted to take it too seriously0 -

That's why I don't use Wahoo Segments and was talking about the Virtual Training software.
As it was thought they never released the ipad racing in real time against other people but you can and I did ride courses based on tcx files and there are leaderboards. Rides could if you wanted be loaded into Strava too.0 -

It'll never replace riding a bike…...I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
On a Monday night with a tacx and a multiplayer licence we have a handicap race.More details at http://tts4race.co.nf/
Also had races on a Sunday, Tuesday and Thurday nights at Tacxtours .com although this has stopped for the summer .
I have never got bored and it is good fun racing against other riders on line You can see where they are on screen and how many seconds they are in front or behind and can race up to 20 people at at a time. You also get an email from Tacx after the race with times and positions .
cheers Ronnie0 -
Folks check out http://www.zwift.com < gonna be epic!0

Some turbos don't even have power curves so the results would be not even comparable.
You can also fudge your weight or wheel size to give yourself an advantage over others. Or even deflate your tyre to reduce the resistance.
velo-trainer, virtualtraining all let you race around virtual courses if you have the right type of trainer. Both let you schedule races or compete individually. I've used both individually but have not ridden with/against other humans on it. I think will give it a go over winter though when I renew my VT subscription.0 -
People can cheat if they want yep - honest people will ignore those morons and do it correctly - after all - you are only cheating yourself - I turbo train to get fitter and stronger... cheating to beat someone in a virtual race is silly - you wont work as hard and therefore you are cheating yourself!0

Exactly. Not that I wont doubt people might do it but the turbo training is a means to an end. If you look faster than people all winter and then can't post those results come spring what's the bloody point? Might as well be chasing the faster people all winter and then compete in the season!0
