Hi all i have just ordered a turbo trainer which should be here in a couple of days.
Not been on the bike for a while and need to get back into shape. Whats the best way to use the turbo?
Long stints or short but fast?
Never used one before so any advice will be appreciated
Cheers

Get some videos
www.sufferfest.com is a good start!
I find some structure is best, the 'fest videos give you that - try one, Angels is a great starter...0 -
thanks for the link appreciate it0

Quality over quantity for me.
I see people doing 6 hour sessions on turbos and I wonder at what intensity it was.
Also - get a fan. And a sweat towel.0 -
I had a quick go last night for about 30mins.
Top ring and shifted through the gears on the back. Didnt really feel a great lot on my legs but i guess it will be doing me some good?
See what you mean about a fan lol, the sweat was dripping off me, i will have to invest in one0 -
I was expecting to feel the burn and be a bit stiff this morning but i seem ok
Maybe go for longer next time?0 -
You really should have ordered a fan at the same time, or before ordering the turbo. If you can afford two fans, buy two. While riding hard for an hour you can put out well over a thousand watts of heat energy; the hotter you get the less hard/fast you will be able to pedal. It's really important to keep cool just so you can maintain the riding intensity.
Get something like this, it's fairly large and powerful enough, but shop around and try to get a cheaper one if possible as they are now almost double the price I paid last year.25% off your first MyProtein order: sign up via https://www.myprotein.com/referrals.lis ... Did you have sufficient resistance on the back wheel? Quick test, spin the back wheel up on the turbo. Does it carry on spinning for ages? If so, more resistance needed.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

Go and get some sufferfest videos - mostly 45 - 60 mins long but you work really hard doing them. you just need your laptop / ipad in view0
-
I will put more resistance on the back tyre
Need to pay for these videos?0 -
If it's not hard work you're not doing it right.0

Sufferfest are about a tenner a throw - but you could use them over and over.
Or you could look at race clips on youtube and do your own thing for free. Up to you.0 -
Did my first Turbo sesh last week and found that an hour was about right(trying to do some interval stuff mixed in as well)and didn't feel too bad considering I hadn't done any proper riding for a month or so although I think some fine-tuning needs to be done on the set-up..
Found that a good mix on the i-pod helped things along.Ridley Helium SL (Dura-Ace/Wheelsmith Aero-dimpled 45 wheels)
