At my local spot we have a strict no dig, no ride rule.
At the very least half an hour raking at the start of a day is expected. Or at least a little effort if you are only there for a few hours.
It keeps the trails in top condition, ensures everyone who rides respects the trails (no litter) and helps keep a friendly atmosphere.

Are the FC/Council/Local Authority cool with your spot?

At my spot there are only about four of us who ride/maintain/build it so it is literally no dig no ride. Most of it is raking which is easy and theraputic, nice job for a j and a cup of T to warm up for the day.

No one rode the spot for about two weeks - and you could really see the difference - it goes to sh1t quickly

I know this wasnt directed at me, but my spots got a story. We've had battles with dog walkers, council workers, neighbouring allotment owners etc for years - seeing as it isnt exactly a legal spot. However, recently the land got bought by property developers who don't intend to do anything with the land for at least five years. Got in contact with them and now we've got an "allowed" set of trails. well for five years anyway

The land is leased from the owner for this purpose plus there's public liability insurance etc. All as legal as it gets.

That's pretty good of them to be honest, most property developers can be quite ruthless!

    Sounds ideal mate!

There a few "guerilla" trails around me but most are badly maintained (probably because if maintained they risk being spotted by the local FC).

As for the legit trails, well most of them appear to haven been tuned into gravel foot paths in recent years :(

I really need a car so I can go further afield.

My most local spot is probably no-dig-no-ride but I get special dispensation on the grounds that if I feel like it I can get them closed down on a whim  Power corrupts!

all the local trails by me aren't strictly legal, but the FC (natural resource wales or whatever they're called these days) turn a blind eye as long as there's no un natural features, i.e huge ladder drops and stuff
  • is that after you poked them in the eye that was looking?

Similar to Triscombe. Technically illegal but FC allow it as long is it's all in one valley, no woodwork and consideration for other forest users is shown (no road gaps over trails used by horses etc)

Couple of young morons at Swinley built a gap jump over the blue trail. (Before someone calls me a grumpy OLD bastard, I know who they are, and they are both young and moronic)
