You clearly have absolutely no comprehension of what an alcohol problem is. An alcoholic doesn't necessarily drink every night. An alcoholic doesn't even get drunk each time they drink partly because of the tolerance their body has adapted to alcohol and the reliance it places on it. A binge drinker who gets rat arsed every weekend is at risk of alcohol problems just as much as someone who drinks regularly. An addict will always try to convince everyone there is no problem and that they are missing out on the enjoyment. An addict can on the outside seem perfectly fit and able so just because they exercise does not mean they are in good health. Contrary to popular belief, alcohol is a depressant and for those who use it beyond safe levels of consumption, it can cause a lifetime of mental health problems.
First of all i have seen alcoholism at close quarters in my life so i do have a huge comprehension of what an alcohol problem is. Secondly the OP is not a binge drinker. Iam assuming you are a non drinker yourself so feel the need to put yourself on a pedastool.
My father has worked hard all his life and in my eyes is quite successfull and a shining role model for my kids, he is now ready for retiring. He has drunk at the weekends to unwind and relax for aslong as i can remember he gets glowing reports from the doctor. Would you call that a drink problem? If you knew alcoholism which you quite clearly think you do you would say no..0 -
If you bother reading my other posts and the links I posted, you'll find I know plenty about alcohol and substance abuse. Anyone who reads the OP's posts and doesn't think he has a problem is misguided and not helping him to recognise the problem and do something about it before it is too late.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

Sounds like you have the problem, not him.0

A mate of mine died at 38 from pneumonia, he was an alcoholic so I've seen it in action, warm beer with his breakfast in the morning, ordering takeaways but not eating them just to get the bottle of wine because there's nowhere open. I've got mates who drink 4 - 5 pints every night of the week but they're not alcoholics.
I did 50 miles on Thursday and that night I drank near on two bottles of wine, I cycled 40 mile yesterday and went out to watch the Froch fight and probably had 8 pints, I've just been out on the bike to blow the cobwebs off with a quick 20, I won't drink until Tuesday now and then it'll be the weekend. I've drank for 28 years and I won't stop, I've slowed down a hell of a lot but I could never give it up.
I've recently had a liver test due to something unrelated and it's fine, after an AF attack a few years back my ticker was well and truly tested and that was classed as athletic with a rhr of less than 40.

+1 OP has asked for help with a problem. Telling him he doesn't have one looks like a pathetic attempt to justify your own habits.Bozman wrote:Going by some of the "preaching" on here I must be an alcoholic.

2 bottles of wine, or 8 pints in one night is not healthy, whether or not you consider it a problem for you.
What does your health tell us about the state of OP's health? - absolutely fxxk all.
(maybe if you drank less you would be able to train properly instead of doing pointless 20 mile rides :P )durhamwasp wrote:Some ridiculous OTT comments on here, bloke might as well sign into a rehabilitation clinic or start AA classes reading some of the replies.0 -

Maybe if I drank less I would be able to train harder occasionally, I generally don't drink 48hrs before I'm out and my time is limited by a young family, so if I do waste my time doing 20 miles it'll be down to only having an hour free, but I do tend to get in a minimum of 130 miles a week and I don't commute which is a healthy distance given the free time I have.
Why would I want to drink less? Cycling isn't the be all and end all, I have a life away from cycling which I enjoy,
when I drink I'll eat before or after plus I'll probably drink 2-3 litres of water a day to make sure that I'm well hydrated.
I wouldn't say that I'm giving out advice I'm just pointing out that there are plenty of folk out there that do drink and they aren't alcoholics, I'm sure that the OP can take or leave any post on the subject.0 -
I don't agree that a 20 mile ride is a waste of time, any riding is better than no riding IMO.0

Thanks for the replies, and whilst the pro's & Con's are argued out I think I'll get another drink. Onl this time I'll have a latte.
I still cannot find a low or 0% beer choice tho.0
