Cyclocross riding for core strength

Hello all,
I'm thinking of mixing up my winter riding by doing a bit of CX round the local woods and country park, as well as mu usual road rides.

I've read a few articles on the net that say cyclocross riding helps improve core strength, much more so than being fixed in position on a road bike due to the out of saddle riding and also the different bike handling required.

Anyone got any views, for or against. I do some core exercises anyway (although probably not often enough!!)

Cheers,
Andy

CX is a very tough sport and will teach you a lot about bike handling. You will meet riders with immense skill and speed. If the conditions are sticky mud you would need all your strength to ride through. Balancing skills and good gear selection when tackling hilly sections are learned. You will need to be able to run hard at times. To help get
fitter for CX do lots of all out effort short intervals, riding and running. Overall the sport will get you fitter and wiser in a way that road riding couldn't.

If you want to be a strong rider you have to do strong things.
However if you train like a cart horse you'll race like one.
