I watched The Departed the other night for the first time. That is ace. Another classic is Training Day.

The Departed is carbon copy of this film:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/

How the hell Scorsese got any acclaim for the Departed is a mystery. He basically swapped out Asian actors for US actors and left 99% of the film the same.

That'll do for now. Nothing in black 'n' white, 'cos frankly I've yet to see a decent B&W film - from the Battleship Potemkin onwards, they are either dreary or have too many "Darling?", "Yes, Darling?" "Oh, gosh, Darling" moments in it (see: Brief Encounter). The only exception is Le Samurai because it's French and has Alain Delon in it.

    ...and it's in colour

I was certain it was B&W

At least I got the actor right

It's just a hill. Get over it.

I'm pretty sure Melville actually described his later films as "black and white films made in colour", so you were half right.

Il Postino Pat by French & Saunders was a better version.

Firstly, I'm not going for classic films here but just two lesser known ones that I've enjoyed recently.

50:50. Bit of a weepy flick but very powerful with some perverse humour.
Seeking Justice. Totally been going off Nick Cage over a period of years but this was a good take on a vigilante / revenge film that was surprisingly enjoyable. Bit of action in it but not stupid OTT stuff to spoil what was enjoyable plot.

    Was it about Sicilians?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Once Upon a Time in the West (the best Sergio Leone Western, a whole level above the others)
The Duellists (Ridley Scott's first film and one of his best)
Black Narcissus (for the technicolor and overacting)
Andrei Rublev (very heavy going at first, but an absolute masterpiece and worth the effort)
Dark City (film noir / SF hybrid)
Man on Wire (more a documentary than a standard movie, but an amazing film)
Children of Men (great near-future SF film)

On a more recent note, have just watched "Argo" and it's excellent

Started watching "Quartet", and then stopped, it's a "gentle comedy". But it's not actually funny...in fact, it's utter sheet

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Untouchable is a fantastic film! Definitely the best film I've watched this year. Headhunter was good too as recommended by someone earlier
