I thought I was the only person who bought that album!

    Everyone should buy that album!

...if only for "What Jail is Like", which is a beautiful flowery love song

Hmmm some fond memories rekindled in this thread.
The trouble is now I'm old I really like the "best of" albums best as they're just too convenient (or playlists are even better!)
This will probably take me about four hours to complete, and I will miss loads of other top albums going past unnoticed.

Songs for the deaf - Queens of the Stone Age.
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
Fat of the Land - Prodigy
    Second Coming - Stone Roses
    Desire - Bob Dylan
Remain in Light - Talking Heads
    Diamond Dogs - Bowie
    Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
    Rattus Norvegicus - The Stranglers
Tighten Up Vol 88 - Big Audio Dynamite

Some of those I haven't listened to for a long time, but if I could only ever have ten, that's not a bad mix. Tomorrow I would probably change six of those

    Enjoying this thread.

Some interesting albums mentioned by people who seem to have similar tastes to myself, yet I have never heard. I also keep thinking of albums I would include: todays is Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins.

Got me thinking about top ten tunes. I found this far easier than albums and probably wouldn't change these either:

    'Disarm' - Smashing Pumpkins
'Shame About Ray' - The Lemonheads
    'Freak Scene' - Dinosaur Jnr
    'Wasteland' - The Jam
'Just Like Heaven' - The Cure
'Too Close To Heaven' - The Waterboys
    'Stay Free' - The Clash
'The Boys Are back In Town' - Thin Lizzy
    'Swamp Thing' - The Chameleons
I love 'Just like Honey' - The Jesus and Mary Chain but I'd probably take 'Fast Car' - Tracy Chapman
  • Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
Blood on the tracks - Bob Dylan
    Moonflower - Santana
    IV - Led Zeppelin
Live scenes from New York - Dream Theater
Last Waltz - The Band (& guests)
Going for the one - Yes
August and everything after - Counting Crows
    Sticky fingers - Rolling Stones
Waiting for Columbus - Little Feat

Should have said with mine I avoided 'Best of' albums as that's a bit of a cheat and also restricted myself to one album per group.

If not restricted to only one album per group (and in no particular order, and it would probably change if asked tomorrow):

    Stone Roses - Stone Roses
    Pixies - Come on Pilgrim
    Pixies - Surfer Rosa
    Pixies - Doolittle
    Radiohead - OK Computer
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

Thinking about it, for a million reasons, I'd have to have Love - The Cult in there somewhere . . . probably at the expense of X Ray Spex . . . . sorry Polly

If I had time to rifle though my CD collection before being marooned, I would probably go for these:

    The Cult - Love
The Levellers - Levelling The Land
    Jeff Buckley - Grace
    Radiohead - OK Computer
    Muse - Absolution
Cat Power - You Are Free
Midlake - The Trials Of Van Occupanther
    Beach House - Teen Dream
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
    P J Harvey - White Chalk

...although to be fair, if the boat was sinking and I had to make a grab for 10 albums in a hurry I'd probably go for the entire Radiohead back-catalogue.

This is true - but I think the double cd misses out the "talkie bits" on the original vinyl. However, I'll take that and reinstate X Ray Spex - ta!

    Hah, to quote Mr Rossini:

"Mr. Wagner has beautiful moments but bad quarters of an hour."

On a serious note... the Tannhäuser overture is sublime.
