  • Again thanks. Think I may have to have a copy. Trick is to use it regularly along with bike riding, bullworker, and life in general!

Yep, it's bloody great mate! Amongst many other issues I got stiff back/shoulders and this book has, in fact changed my life I exaggerate not.
    Stem is now 3cm lower!!
How long did it take from starting the core exercises to dropping the stem by 3cm?

The real test for me is real life. With all these gales, I had to replace some fence panels. Of course, the new ones were slightly too big so that resulted in a lot more effort to get them to fit.

Usually I would be absolutely stuffed afterwards with still hamstrings and upper body the next day, but I really felt fine. I could feel I have done work, but no pain or stiffness.

I have also noticed that I am sitting on the bike better as I used to slouch a lot. That is still a work in progress though.

    About 6 weeks.

  • After 6 weeks now, I too have noticed a big improvement in my lower back strength, and my hips don't drop anywhere near as much when I start to tire and fatigue. It has become a daily routine for me now. Wake up and do my core exercises (follow the program or devise your own). 20-25mins is sufficient, sometimes twice a day.

Just started using the book -excellent. Unfortunately though, I bought the Kindle version first and found it very awkward due to tiny print in tables, and the need to frequently jump from the workout plan to the exercise explanations etc. This would get easier as I get more familiar with each exercise, but it is a whole lot easier now that I have the paperback. Anyone thinking of buying, my advice is get the paperback version.
  • Had this turn up this morning! Looks very interesting!

I travel abroad quite a bit during the winter and wanted something to keep me active in the evenings when the Italian/Spanish hotels don't have a decent gym in them.

I sent mine back as I already do 90% of the exercises or variations of them.

Would have been more inclined to keep it if it came with an instructional video CD. Not a fan of turning pages mid-exercise...

Yes that is correct. Still, videos are cool. They can include all kinds of footage and stuff.

When I started I got bad lower back pain when running after only a few minutes. Just done 14.3miles with a camelback on with no pain whatsoever! :D

Seriously, I never imagined I'd be able to do that. Got the Daniels Running Formula book and following one of the programmes in there, together with my turbo sessions and this core work it's really coming on.

  • Got this book for Christmas and have been doing the workouts for 4 weeks now. My hips feel more stable and I have a lot less lower back pain already. I am not in agony when I'm getting up in the morning which almost makes me want to cry with happiness. I was cautiously doubtful about this program at first because the exercises appeared too gentle and quick, but so far I'm very, very impressed. I can feel I'm working muscles I never normally work. I don't know how it will translate to on-the-bike performance yet because I can't ride at the moment but I am optimistic. I'm really optimistic about reaching my cycling goals this summer.

Just started week 2 of Level 3 after working my way through from Level 1. Can definitely feel the benefit on and off the bike. Really helps if you have posture issues like me

    Gets pretty tough though!
  • Just ordered this after reading the thread. A very easy decision considering I'm off work at the moment with a bad back, which has been an ongoing problem for many years. Lots of books and articles about core training have you messing about on balls and with bands and suchlike and I don't have the room, nor inclination, to keep a glorified space-hopper in my flat! Also a lot assume you've already got enough fitness to get into difficult looking poses. Fingers crossed.

I ordered the book after reading through this thread and did my first session last night. Feeling like I have been repeatedly punched in the stomach today!

Just found some videos on YouTube that demonstrate some of the exercises in the book.

That's a good YouTube link. Thanks

It's been a while now. I was just wondering if people have stayed with this and how they are feeling etc? I've just restarted (again) so hopefully I'll keep at it this time

I did some work on it earlier in the year and felt the benefit from some sporadic level 1 sessions, but as race season ramped up, I did the unforgivable and neglected it in favour of extra bike time. I found it hard to fit it all in. Wish I had kept it going. I race XC, my longest race will generally be sub 2 hours with the odd one just creeping over that.

Ended up doing the XC marathon national champs here in September and was crippled with lower back pain for 8 weeks after it. 4 hours on rough trail center trails at race pace on a stiff hardtail highlighted all my weaknesses and clearly caused some damage that was always on the periphery.

2 weeks back on the book and the pain finally started to subside. Rearing its head again on days after not doing the rehab routine the night before. This is week 3 and i am as good as pain free now. A pretty amazing turn around with the way things had been going.

Won't be slipping back into old bad habits again I hope!
