I wear a poppy, but not sure that it's with pride, more out of respect and remebrance for the dead and the living but wounded. I do feel it its a crime having so many charities required to support ex-servicemen. When I was a social worker, working with the elderly I often felt ashamed at how little we would offer WW2 veterans. Without SSAFA and the Royal British Legion some would have no help at all. The modesty of the people I met who had not only fought the war but then delivered the welfare state (including my job) to my parents generation and mine, was truly humbling.

I tend to mark remebrance day by listening to Pink Floyds "The Final Cut" album (now on spotify). Sounds trivial but give it a listen, and you may be moved to tears like I was the first time I heard it as a cynical teenager.

Well done, Mamba. Not for buying the poppy, although I am glad you get to feel pride in wearing it. But well done for coming back and saying that you have had a change of heart. Chapeau sir.

Our next project is to get Frank the Tank to vote Tory.

Yes, so we can have more tax cuts, less public spending and even more reliance on charity!

Or as the socialists would have it - Higher taxes, more public spending and even more reliance on benefits.
  • It wouldn't be November without Bikeradar's annual poppy thread.

There's been some corkers in the past, IIRC.
