I would echo the posts here but I would say that there are some simple extra's that can make the difference. Often people overlook side visibility, from a side turning even with lots of forward facing lights a car may miss you. I would suggest at the very least some reflective side wall tyres, I have got some reflective tape (B&Q) and stuck it to some electrical tape which is then stuck to the side of my frame (this avoids paint damage). Also I have a front and rear light with side visible lights
Other than that its just a case of making yourself obvious, Don't ride too close to the gutter as this encourages cars to try and squeeze past and don't listen to music etc as I often find at night hearing cars is just as if not as important as seeing them.
Ride confidently and light ya self up like a christmas tree.0
