Just seen these picture of an indoor turbo class. 20 turbo trainers set up in close proximity, not one fan in sight. Apart from paying £12 to ride a bike indoors for an hour, surely you have got to be out of your mucking find to do any kind of intense exercise whilst stationary and surrounded by what are effectively 19 other 1000-watt heaters, with no cooling?!

Maybe they're training for La Vuelta?

Very neat and tidy set up...

    Room is air conned?
  • It's a strange concept. Last year my cycle club organised group turbo sessions. To me it's pointless as I'd rather do it at home which saves time and I can work on my own training plan and keep cool.

Social side, Motivating, Club existance beyond racing, Team building, Discipline.

Just some of the reasons people may choose to partake in group turbo sessions.

Doing at home alone in the garage (or wherever) could be argued as more strange.

If you've got a group of you training for the same thing (Marmotte or something) then it could be useful I suppose, or of course if you don't have a turbo of your own to use.

I was tempted to go to a group turbo session or ask the local spin class if I could take my bike and turbo. Probably less mind numbing than doing it at home alone. But it seemed a bit of a logical fallacy to drive x amount of miles with a bike in the back of the car, to then ride the bike indoors, when I could just step out the door and ride the bike on the road.

Can't see any evidence of air conditioning in that room.

    I can see both sides.

From my own perspective, turbo permanently set up in garage with music, fan, power meter plus shower within touching distance...way beats lugging stuff in car, setting up, dismantling, getting sweaty beyond belief, driving back home...strange or not! Lots of more convenient opportunities to be social and to support the club.

to true, yesterday, 1/2 way through a turbo sess, a courier needed a signature for a neighbours parcel - there was no way out of not stopping, she looked at me as if i was the last gay in wales(or Cornwall for that matter)

My local club have just started group turbo nights once a week, all sounds great till you have to load your bike, piece of carpet or something to protect the hall floor, turbo (my RnR weighs a lot and wouldn't fit in car with bike too), drink etc drive 10 miles and then get charged albeit a small £2 for 60 minutes of exercise. Rather stay in the comfort of my own home thanks especially as the weather gets progressively worse as winter approaches :)

    Nice scenery then !

I think we need to know more about the original pics - what were they doing there ? A promotion or taster maybe ?

The room looks big so at least it won't heat up as much - maybe they'll open the doors too. But yeah . It'll be sweaty - and that can be a positive if they're training for the heat.
