I made the connection because I was in Brixton in 1981 so, meh.
I can leave at that and wont back track.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -

In short, I think:
We need more black british (that's people of African/Carribbean descent) politicians and in senior positions.
I think given the role Diane Abbott plays she is better suited to making noise from the back benches.

I.e:
Asian - good at school, maths, great grades would make a great Doctor, generally harmless.
Black person - athletics, dancer, good at sport, aggressive, attitude problem, gonna be late every day and never let em near the wife, she might not come back.
None of the above is true, but dare I say these - no matter how minor - are many of the perceived obsticles that a person may need to overcome. I'm beginning to sound like Diane Abbott. But generally the rule is true in other industries as well, I've worked in the NHS for 7 - 8 years and I have only ever seen one black person who is an Executive Director - and it is something the NHS, in general, acknolwedge.
You're beginning to sound more like Darcus Howe, if you ask me.Ben

Fin.
Surely the answer isn't needing more black British, it's simply needing more people who are competent and can represent their constituents in the best way. By saying we need more people from a specific gender/ethnicity you risk putting off those that may not be the right cultural fit. Look at the met police for example, for years they have promoted diversity which is great but "minority" candidates found it a darn sight easier to get in, many of those candidates have then been fast tracked into more senior roles irrespective of their ability.Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0 -

A gentleman who has achieved a lot in his time with the Trade Union Movement.
i'm not sure I would class his time as a trade unionist as him being a politician
Since being in the HofL, I'm not sure he has done a huge amount to class him as successful.
I would certainly class him as one of the most significant black people in modern British History though.
(even though he might not have been eligible to play for England under Jack Wilshire's "scheme" )Want to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

It'll be Chuka in 2020 as leader of the Labour Party who battles Boris, leader of the Tories.

Yeah, I think Cameron is out this election - I'm not sure who will be in Government though. Miliband for all his critics is doing a lot to combat the negativity around him. Clegg is doing enough to be acknowledged as 'not toxic' after all, but not enough to win back votes and Trust. If Cameron wins, he'll have to do a lot to win back the UKIP-side of his party and it'll be one seriously unpopular Government.
Reckon we'll have another Coalition to be honest. Labour-Lib or Tory-Labour. Miliband will be out either way and Chuka in as leader to lead the 2020 election. What ever it's gonna be a clusterfuck.Food Chain number = 4

Nothing would surprise me any more, I can see it now, coming together in 'exceptional circumstances' to work in the 'national interest'.
Exceptional circumstances meaning the vast majority of people not voting for either of them, the national interest being furthering the careers of their career politicians and enriching their mates."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0
