Indoor time trial league

Hi all,

For market research purposes, can you tell me whether you would consider signing up to an indoor time trail league?

Basically it would consist of you doing a 20k weekly time trial for 10 weeks, each time you beat your time are awarded a certain number of points and the person with the most points at the end of the session wins the league.

The great side of this is that even though you are doing a time trial with 6-8 other, you are only competing against your own time. Cost would be around £65-70 per season (10 x 45min sessions)

Effectively it’s a competitive form of spinning, would be great to hear your comments.

As in trainer road, or a gym/studio with bikes set up next to each other?
  • Either your own bikes on Turbo Trainer or Static Gym bikes. What would be the preference?

Would the riders all be starting together or at one minute intervals in the spirit of testing?
  • They would all start together, because it would be open to all levels because you are only interested in beating your own time week on week. If you beat your own time you get a certain number of points, if you lose time then you get a reduced number of points. The league will be made of the total number of points achived (league part is more a bit of fun and to introduce a competitive side of things)

I general terms this could be a fun idea, but I would think about who you are aiming this at and work on the details. As it stands this isn't racing or much of a training session. You are unlikely to attract anyone who is remotely serious about either.

What's to stop you going really slowly in the first session when you get your benchmark time and just going a bit quicker each week? I could improve week on week if I did the first one really slowly! :)

Why is there a cost for doing this? Riders riding their own kit in their own houses, owning their own risk, paying for their own heating and drinks, showers, towels and music.

If there is no 'prize incentive' people I wouldn't pay to do an indoor training session. If there is an incentive there will be lots of cheating.

You would have to be totally bonkers to do this one.

If you want to be a strong rider you have to do strong things.
However if you train like a cart horse you'll race like one.
