Hey nochekmate what a fantastic achievement. Why does your Garmin only show the overall distance as 52.75 miles I was under the impression it was a 55, as billed? still a stonking average, was that riding in a group? sorry to hear about your colleagues bikes. Do you think it was planned or opportunistic scum bags.0

Ride comes up short on the Garmin - just as it did last year. Rode with a few pals from my club Mercia CC to the base of the Cat climb by which point we had averaged about 21.5mph and were flying past all and sundry - a couple of the younger lads who are 2nd CAT riders took off up the Cat climb (can't live with that at my age ) and then waited at the top for the rest of us to arrive, which we did shortly afterwards as we rode that climb at a fair pace. About 3 of us rode back along Axe Edge etc to the finish - one of whom was a female (she's a European standard triathlete!) who bagged a whole host of QOMs on Strava from the ride.
Re: the stolen bikes, I think that the scumbags planned it all out as there is no doubt that in my mind that they turned up in cycling gear in order to be able to walk the bikes out of the compound. Scum.0 -
So you were riding in esteemed company to say the least. Had a lot more in the tank on the Cat but was unsure on how much energy I needed in reserve for the back end where there was a sting in the tail. Lets hope the culprit gets his comeuppance and your friend gets reacquainted with his pride and joy soon.0

Never saw Sean, but I did go past a tandem on the second to last hill. I guess that was Brian, respect to him and his daughter. A great effort.
I peaked at 48 mph down that hill into Leek, which was a surprise as I had thought I was doing about 39 at the time. I was surprised as it actually felt at lot faster, but realised that I hadnt read the GPS correctly at the time and had read the distance done rather than the speed!
I completely agree on the bike theft, it had to be planned. You feel safe to leave your bike pitched up against a wall, because you are surrounded by fellow cyclists and who would steal from one of their own. I wont be leaving my bike unattended at any future event.Top Ten finisher - PTP Tour of Britain 20160 -
I think Brian and the team have done a fantastic job over the years. I missed the first one and bottled out on the wet one (3 years ago?) but have enjoyed and ridden all others
He has been pivotal in getting Sean and other superstars to ride with us.
The pressure of having that many riders on the road with possible problems with cars, residents, whatever with your own name heading up the whole thing must be tremendous. And there he is each year smiling !
Hope Cystic Fibrosis will keep things going- its a great cause-
THANKS BRIAN !!!!!!!!!!0 -
I suffered the wet Rourke ride - what a day! Absolutely drenched and got blown off the road onto moorland just after the Cat & Fiddle pub. Cars were deliberately driving into areas of deep water to spray the oncoming cyclists.0
