IS to 160 Post....still not fitting?

Hi all.
I've put hydraulic disc brakes (shimano deore) on my mtb.
The fork fitting is an IS mount. The brake caliper fitting is a post. The rotor is an avid 160mm.
For the forks I've bought a shimano 160 post to IS adaptor and tried to fit it. However, it doesn't fit.
It's almost like the rotor is too big or that the bottom of the mount doesn't come out enough (i've measured and remeasured the rotor and it's 160). I can get the top bolt in but the bottom (fork to adaptor) is miles away.
On the rear I've got it all sweet, but the front just won't go....
Is there a 3rd type of mount?....really confused as I've never encountered this before!

Have you installed a set of washers/spacers as I know my old Avids came fitted with some similar to this http://www.google.nl/imgres?sa=X&rls=co ... =125&ty=740

I've not installed any spacers. I think they're flat mounted to the post mount. The back works perfectly like this. A stock photo shows the same set up I have:

I think I'm just gonna have to admit defeat and go to the LBS.

I know it's not my bike, but work is slow today and I'm lacking motiviation. The pic below is the adaptor I've bought.
I have the arrow pointing up towards the bars. I've got it on so that the flat edge is against the forks, and the "cut out" piece (the side visible in this picture) is next to the rotor so that the flat surface meet with the brake mount.
It's a 160 rotor, 160 IS to post mount.....what could I possibly do wrong (apart from mount it upside down which I'm sure I haven't)?

Yes agreed. That will teach me not to skim read issues in future.
I saw the mention of avid disc, and assumed calipers also0 -

without seeing what YOU have and what YOU have done we can not offer YOU any help with YOUR problem.
but we can say that yes that is the correct adaptor.
also knowing what make model and year of fork would be good."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Adaptor is on the right way. Arrow pointing up as per instructions.....
I remember someone having adapter problems once, they said they put the adapter on the right way with the arrow pointing up, nobody could work it out what the problem was so I asked for them to post a photo, they did and the photo immediately showed that the adapter was on the wrong way around.
When the adapter was fitted to the fork the arrow was pointing up but the bike was upside down.0 -
ok, photo's of the issue:

No idea why the images aren't working - I've clicked the image button and pasted in the URL....

Also, forgot to add, forks are: SR Suntour SF8-XCT-V2 (very rubbish set of forks, but at the moment it's only about taking my son out....and the occassional thrashing!). I think 2010 is the year of manufacture.Getting up is the second hardest thing in the morning0

the reason the pics aint showing is dropbox is crap.
right in this case i would mount the adaptor and then get some washers and longer bolts and space the caliper out."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Dropbox works if you know how to use it, on the Dropbox links you need to 'Copy Image Location' of the photo by right clicking on the photo with a PC or control clicking on the photo with a Mac.
When you do that you'll get the following addresses which need to be pasted when you click on 'Img'.

No idea why the adapter doesn't work but I agree with packing the caliper out to make it fit.
When fitting attach the adapter to the fork first and then attach the caliper to the adapter.0 -

No fail if you can see the photos, that method worked for me.
Methods on how to do it can vary depending on your browser and if you have certain add ons.
Firefox with and the No Script add on it worked for me if No Script is active with Dropbox or you 'Temporarily allow dropbox.com', it won't work if you 'Allow dropbox.com', 'Temporarily allow all of this page' or 'Allow all of this page'.
On Firefox without the No Script add on.

ok thanks all. I'll be at the LBS this evening getting some spacers.
Still confused why it's needed as everything is correct.....
And thanks for the tip on dropbox.....Getting up is the second hardest thing in the morning0 -
I've just replaced an XCT fork with an XCR (only slightly better, but has lockout) and have an IS to Post Mount adaptor (the XCR is PM) spare. PM me your address and I can send it to you if you like - pointless it gathering dust.0

Although I can still see 2 images that I posted I will agree that dropbox is a big fail for image hosting.
After a bit of reading it looks like you can get away with posting photos for a while but if too many people look at the image you'll run into problems.
Conclusion.
If you want to post photos do them through a website that actually lets you host images and don't use dropbox.0 -
