  • Morstar's right. Change can only come from within. For all that some cry 'burn the place down'.....it aint going to happen. Who's going to do that for a start? Look at the Tour - the focal point for 'scandal' across all of cycling has been and remains the Tour. Its been rocked with doping scandals for years, and yet it still carries on, teflon-like, making loads of money, still bringing the millions out onto the roadside to watch, and gaining reach in new countries each year.

As with sports governing bodies, the UCI is self-regulating and self-governing. Its structure means that the power of change lies in the hands of a small number of national federations. Cookson isnt very dynamic or charismatic - but frankly if he was a rabid radical, preaching fire and brimstone....anyone think for one moment he'd pick up even one vote? Of course he wouldnt.

As for other candidates...well, no one else has shown any cojones in coming forward to challenge McQuaid - doesnt say a lot about alternatives, does it.

But the Tour is clean now. No positives this year!!!!!!*

*Even if the chance of finding a positive under current rules is so tiny, it's hardly worth testing

The worrying part is that Brian Cooksone was either aware and kept quiet or was unaware. In either case he hardly seems like the kind of leader we need to replace Mcquaid.

It shows you what kind of organisation the UCI is when the management committee are asked to sign-off PMQs salary... but aren't actually told what that salary is. Brian abstained, (and as far as I'm aware he was the only one), which should tell you something.
