There is a fundamental need to eyeball any vehicle driver that may pose a threat and for years now a lot of buses/hgv's have signs saying "if you can't see my mirrors I can't see you", this can be taken further to read if you cannot see the driver in the mirror you are in a blind spot.
Driving sensors will help but educating cyclists needs to contribute too.Lapierre Aircode 300

sad news about someone being killed tho....never nice.

In all the years i,ve been cycling i still find it hard to believe the amount of cyclists that try to overtake a lorry on the inside when traffic has stopped. It,s one of the first things i learnt my kids when i first learnt them to ride a bike.Sadly some people just cannot grasp the fact that a lorry driver sitting 2.5 to 3 metres up in the cab cannot see a cyclist who,s right under there nose.ademort

We had a guy killed up here in Scotland on thursday, not to take away from the poor soul in london, main A91 straight wide main road and a vaxhall corsa took him out. Are these drivers blind!, not to type cast anyone but two types of corsa driver around here are boy racer type or silly little girls texting on their mobile phones while driving.
These people should be jailed for a very long time then banned for life from driving.
Seems there is no deter ant for drivers who kill cyclists.2014 Ribble Gran Fondo

I bought a hornit a few months back http://www.thehornit.com/ and use it at every opportunity. Not just to tell drivers off that cut me up (which seems to be the only use of car horns). But to actually alert drivers of my presence. So if I'm approaching a junction and it looks like a car is about to pull out, I'll blast the horn and let them know I'm there. The same for using a cycle lane beside stationary vehicles.
The horn is loud enough to get drivers attention although unfortunately doesn't sound much like a car horn. I guess this was to keep size/weight down.
The unit itself is small with a small remote button you can attach anywhere on your bars.0 -

You mean using the cycle path?
The fact is if you are in a big truck and have blind spots you shouldn't be on the road. If you can't see where you're going you're a danger.
There's no point in being right but dead. If a cycle path leads you up the inside of a lorry and you take it, you're crazy.
It is extremely worrying that they build cycle paths like this, it would be easy for a younger or less experienced rider to take the path assuming it to be safe, when, in fact, it puts you right in the death zone.
Unless the lorry driver has handed you a gel, bag of chips, 12lb frozen Salmon assume he hasn't seen you, even if any of the previous apply, assume he is human and may make a mistake, as we all can and do, all the time.0
