Yeah. Neither Cav nor Merckx need an 11 sproket.

I thought CAV used 53x11 for sprinting.....

Runs 12 on back I believe. Vaguely remember someone mentioning it when Greipel turned up with a 10 sprocket in the tour.

Even if Cav did use an 11, it seems unlikely that the OP cruises along at 86% (50/53 * 11/12) of Cav's flat out sprint speed.

Hell, even I can hit 35mph on 48x15, and I'm rubbish!

It's torque you are producing, spinning out is a 130rpm plus (I ride with single speeders who are hitting 26mph at 160rpm on 32/16 MTB's. You are not doing circa 55mph so aren't spinning out*.

Your alleged POWAA is your inability to get a decent cadence.

And then buy my DA 7900 53-39 chainset when that's still not enough for you (taken off my bike after the test ride and bubble-wrapped since then)

    thing of beauty...

    and only £180

7800-series chainsets are indeed poems in aluminium. Sadly Merlin have only 175mm cranks in stock. I've been hunting for a 170mm 7803 chainset for quite some time now. Can anybody help me?

at the risk of being practical, I think you'll need to change the middle ring too or your front mech wont cope with the bigger shift. I had to when I went from a 50 to 52 on a 105 triple

I never considered that but I did actually change my front shifter at the same time, as I couldn't have a 105 shifter running with a Dura Ace chainset... it's just not done. 8)
