Training for etape du dales

Hi all,
I'm new to road biking and have done a few 60 mile charity rides over past couple of months which I have managed roughly an average of 14 mph. My Dad is a very keen cyclist and did the etape du dales a couple of years ago and wants me to do it with him next year (and possibly dragon ride). I have a 20 mile loop I do 3-4 times a week and takes about 1 hour 5 mins. The only trouble is that is relatively flat where I live with not many hills. I rode a charity ride around Bath and chew valley last weekend which was just under 60 miles with 3500 ft of ascent, it took me 4 hours 20 mins and I was absolutely knackered at the end because of the hills. Any training advice for the etape would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks...

If you just want to do the Etape du Dales you will be fine, 60 miles at 14-15 mph is respectable, if you want to do it as fast as possible you will probably need to get some climbing training in. Just do repeats on a hill near you, if it isn't steep enough do it in a higher gear or on an old and heavy bike. The harder you practice the better you will be.0
