Looks like they can get a 58ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Aaaargh - I'm getting seriously distracted by the Scott Foil Di2 deals at Westbrook. Feels like I could put together a stonking heart-over-the-head bike for around £3k - frame & groupset £2,400, RS80s £300, Spesh Toupe £80, bars and stem £200.
Can anybody talk me out of it and onto something more sensible....?ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Yes - a three hundred quid nice steel frame bike from the 80s or 90s will be just as fast in Amsterdam as any of the bikes you've mentioned and might actually not get nicked. Alternatively just blow a few grand on anything you like - carbon, ti, stainless, whatever - ideally with Di2 and aero and probably disc wheels. Whatever turns you on visually because functionally, it won't make a blind bit of difference what you get!
Just have a quick cold shower and if that doesn't work, get someone to chop your hands off with a hatchet before you press any 'confirm purchase' buttons on any websites!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Don't confuse this bike with the granny bike I'll also get. This bike is for trips to Zandvoort and The Hague not for tootling around Amsterdam city. My new employer has a cycling club/team that does trips to Alpe D'huez to raise money for cancer research. This bike will either be between my awesome thighs or stashed in my apartment

I'll grant you that there are ups and downs at Zandvoort - though I'm not sure that it would be that interesting to cycle and it is a bit of a crap hole there as well - but there's not exactly much altitude or drama in cycling to The Hague or anywhere else around there; the dunes are about the only topography there is. I'd build something that was designed for the location - most road bikes are not as far as The Netherlands goes. If I was to spend money on that bike, it would be bespoke steel with as few gears as I could manage - hopefully seven on the rear say - and that would save one Sti which cuts quite a bit of weight. Probably it would be some hideously appealing retro modern mess but it would be simple.
I did a ride in Holland - I think I'd managed at least 2 miles before the GPS registered any change in elevation! Sometimes you have the option to do hill repeats up bridges!Faster than a tent.......0 -
There's only one appeal to Zandvoort: motor racing. The Spettacolo Sportivo for instance. http://spettacolosportivo.eu/
Yup - it's going to be very flat - a total contrast to what I'm used to. But there will be opportunities to drive towards Germany and find some hills. For the rest, I'm glad I'll have my Tacx VR TT in the apartment (it's probably no surprise that Tacx are Dutch).ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

I've often been over to Zandvoort with my Dutch friend Ronald in his Fiat 2300 Ghia Coupe to see what's going on - always interesting but always windy and desolate!
The riding is pleasant elsewhere though at least if the winds are light. Lots of nice places to visit like Gouda and Kinderdijk which is the only place left in Holland where there is a really big cluster of windmills. A lot of the time it's left for 3 miles, right for 2 miles etc etc but there are some nice bendy bits! And the road is always going to be better than the turbo!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Couple of Ridleys :
Helium-based with Ultegra Di2 (not sure about the grahpics tho') http://www.pearsoncycles.co.uk/store/pr ... -Than-Air/
and similar and cheaper http://www.pearsoncycles.co.uk/store/pr ... Excalibur/
Fancy the Ridleys myself - the Helium is newer/lighter but has ISP and the Pearson logo on the DT is pretty gash.0 -

Pearson logos look much nicer in the flesh ihmo, but I would say that"Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

Nope. But spec some deepish rims to go with the aero frame. Says the man who rides one with skinny Ksyrium Elites0 -

You got one ?
Would be interested in seeing some more/better pics - the big and swirly script just doesn't look great in the pics but I can believe that in the flesh (especially when you're riding the darn thing) it's absolutely fine.
Re the WB Scott Foils - the HMX framesets with the Di2 is a good deal when you've got decent wheels available and there isn't much other kit required to complete it.0 -
Sadly not the bike, just a bit of Pearson kit. I believe Green Brompton just recently bought one of the LighterThanAirs, maybe she could post some photos."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

Interesting to read that. I don't consider my Foil to be a heart bike at all. It's an excellent ride - fast and exciting - but very much a tool rather than something that tugs at the heart strings.0 -

But given I could have "got away" with just buying something at half the price with basic gears, going with a full-on weapon was overkill (and appeals to my heart too - I'm a function junky)ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Pretty much. Amazing how a girl can be swayed by a 6ft7 Man City fan, but if he doesn't ride bikes and he doesn't read books then it's just not going to work.
