I'll be honest, I have reported one post in my time

But that was RC, for having his name in inflammatory red writing

Good question and I don't know.

When I've been concerned about a post, by which I think that the post is such that the poster is likely to get a ban or a warning rather than that I find it offensive (because my offense tolerance level is ginormous), I've PM'd the poster and told them that they should consider cooling it or editing it a bit because I don't want to see posters get binned.

Some, it seems, just run to teacher

Speaking as someone who runs a discussion forum, it's important that you do. It's easy to get people who are being just plain nasty and they need to be dealt with by the moderators. Considering moderators don't read all the posts, or anything close to that, you need the report post feature.

It would never enter my head to report a forum user for posting anything I thought beyond the pale*. I would ignore it and keep away from that particular area. Ultimately, if I was caused repeated offence, I would realise I was in the wrong forum.
If I did feel strongly about something, I would like to think that I would contact the offending poster directly to attempt to resolve it.
I have offended at least one person on here. I know this because the Mods told me so. I was in the wrong and I contacted the person I assumed to have complained and apologised. If the complainant had contacted me directly, he would have received the same apology, without troubling the mods.

*The exceptions being such as kiddy porn. In which case it wouldn't bother the mods, it would be a higher authority.
  • this forum seems to be particularly full of sensitive types, people who cant take a joke, busy bodies, and those who take everything people type as serious and thus take offence, more often than not on someone elses behalf.

i suppose its just a mirror of the weirdos who are keen on cycling, and the type of person it attracts/attracted traditionally in the uk...

now its getting more mainstream and populist, these types will become the minority perhaps

I think that this forum would self regulate, your discussion forum may as you say attract "plain nasty" people but I don't think that is the case here, if someone behaves badly they would be told by everyone else :D

I think a problem is this false sense of outrage that has been fostered (by the media?) in the UK, surely no-one is genuinely upset or sensitive to this particular bit of the internet. I think the wrong people are being forced to leave.

    If you can't cope, FRO.

Please feel free to take umbrage at my comment, then move on :D

  • It depends on the forum of course. On my forum if someone is trolling there are immediate cries for the moderators to take action.

    Spot on.

The whole point of BB is that people can enjoy some good banter/vulgarity/general insulting etc, that's why it was set up. No-one is forced to come into the playground if they don't want to. If it carries on like this, BB will just die off as it'll be not much different from what is now Cake Stop (not the old Cake Stop, which was good fun).

  • why dont u all come over to the onlinegooner forum, anything goes, as long as its legal, although its compulsory to moan about AW, some of the meltdowns on there are stuff of legend (the norman wisdom rip thread was a particular highlight), i dont frequent it much these days, but we could do with some new blood since loads of people didnt return after we were closed down for a month or so by the website owner, as the levels of vitriol between posters and the club increased, and certain posters came up with such hilarious and imaginative put downs (i think the owner was leant on by the club, as hes in their pocket). that said to join you must either be a student or oirish.

I'm offended by the posters of the posts who post posts that other posters wouldn't post but they post anyway despite the posts being horrible posts posted with reposte. The posting posters post posts that I wouldn't post in the post. So there.
Go away you horrible posters of posts that you wouldn't post to your Mums post box.
This is the end of this post by the poster of this post posted post haste. That means that this post is in the past so it is a post posted past post haste by a posing poster of posts posting posts to other posters of posts in a posting post part of a forum.
    Got it? Good.

No - I wouldn't complain about them: I would mercilessly attack them on here until they Foxtrot Oscared. Look at past scum and their racism comments: they didn't last long...............

We're here for a laugh, some close to the edge banter, some ranting and lots of pictures of Nina. If you don't like it go to Communterville and/or Cake Stop.

I think the server is in North Korea. After all, I have apparently been posting at 3am!! I wish. Not enough brownie points earned with the OH to do that sort of thing

Oooh, 2 hours and the big girls thread with the ctrl and the plus/minus keys...what would I do for that...?

Who rattled my cage? Grrr...must be that tranny from daan saaf.

I am going to complain lots about the eegits who keep friggin moaning about things. I tell you what - if you lot make one more complaint about going off topic including:
MAMILS, wind farms, fracking, the price of Rapha, mouldy eccles cakes, Alsager, Claire Balding Anne Widdicombe, Stoke, freelance mod bashing, sore backs & pain killers, stupid car drivers, freelance breaking the rules, loosing things because of Wiggle etc etc, I will bloody complain, I will and you'll never hear the end of it.
Its my bloody right to go off topic and off on one. So there.
Now fuk off the lot of you, i'm busy cave painting and later I am going off to club a woman over the head and drag her back here for some agricultural lessons.

Apart from the delicate flowers, who of their own volition choose to come into BB but then decide that they are soooo... offended that they must complain because the content is far too un-Missus friendly! God can you imagine being so lacking in balls that you had to refer to your missus for approval on what you can and can't read?

The people who are most responsible for killing this place as a vibrant and worthwhile place to visit are those 'super intellectuals' that think it's really clever to tell contributors of the forum to go elsewhere if they don't like it! I can't help but be reminded of...........

I hope that is not directed at or includes me. I would like to state now that I have never been and never will be considered or referred to as an 'intellectual', neither super nor average.
