Bizarre it's with Penguin not Harper Collins.
  • See he's with 19 management, not messing about there, big league.

Dummies guide to running a cycling team... Might work

Its going to have big crossover appeal from pure sports to other readership demographics such as team/businesss management/reference books. Brailsford's words and approach are treated as golden in certain areas of business management

There'll be a LOT of numbers in that book, and not just at the bottom of the pages.
    Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
    Allround - Cotic Solaris

And graphs. He likes a graph, does Brailsford

It will be like a 300 page management consultant seminar. If he gets the wrong ghostwriter (or worse writes it himself) then it could be awful.

I have it on reliable authority he's not writing it himself - maybe co-authoring, but def not going solo.

That was my immediate thought. We'll see.

The wider the margins are, the more pages there will be.

    The Penguin?

Obviously he's publishing books whilst waiting for his pelvis to heal.

It all reminds me of Clive Woodward. It will be a business school's delight.

I believe the ghostwriter has been in Tenerife most of the year trying to improve his word count output by following Shane Sutton on an old typewriter

According to some calculations on twitter, it's got almost as many words as Armstrong's book in 2001. So much for the new clean generation of writers.

Kimmage to throw his toys out of the pram at not being selected as ghost writer?

Do you often condemn a book before its even written ?

Only if I have reasonable grasp of the author.

For example, I will state now that the next offerings from Katie Price, EL James and Dan Brown will be crap.

Of course you have historical reference to those "authors" which you don't have with DB.

I've heard him in enough interviews though. And he always sounds like a man who has just been on a management course. And a well ghostwritten autobiog should reflect the voice of the subject.

It was only a jocular comment anyway. But I bet it will lean more toward management philosophy type autobiographies of business leaders rather than the usual retelling of events type of sports autobiog.

Somehow Brailsford seems less annoying than the riders ... which says a lot about the riders in team SKY/GB ...

I especially think he's been better this year without the additional stress of the Olympics and he can just get on with the pro cycling team for a couple of years ...

His only issue is that SKY really want the GB connection and that effects the pro team (eg. Thomas ... he doesn't perform to the level he should/could because he's conflicted ... annoyingly SKY are sponsoring GB via the back door so he's allowed to continue ...)

I'm not sure how many people, apart from you, find it annoying, and its not really 'via the back door'. I think the huge SKY logo and the millions they spend on the sport make it quite transparent.

He he. I'd honestly never thought that the things such as the Sky logo splashed on the boards of the Manchester velodrome, the Sky name logo pretty bloody obvious on the GB team kit, the fact that the GB riders are touted as 'Sky ambassadors', the appearance of the trackies at the big mass public Sky Rides, the very well publicised co-branding of British Cycling and Sky in campaigns etc - were all signs of back-door sponsorship.

I dunno, Crankie, maybe if you're still unconvinced, the British Cycling website might give you a teensy clue that the Sky sponsorship isnt exactly covert?

    All good stuff ...

Nothing to do with SKY finding a way to get onto the Olympic gravy train whilst not being an official commercial partner? It was a canny move to find a way into the biggest sporting event in British history ...

    That's the backdoor part ...

But carry on as you were ... t'was all comedy gold ...

Lots of sportsmen at the Olympics had sponsors. There's nothing sneaky or 'backdoor' about it.
