As gavbarron says above - this is becoming a bit tedious and slightly surreal. You (and your coach, by the sound of it) both seem to hold opinions which are entirely at odds with established medical science, not to mention conventional wisdom, common sense and your body's own autonomic nervous system.
On that basis, you are either:
a) on the verge of a major breakthrough which will challenge the way we all view the human respiratory system, or
b) talking complete and utter nonsense
Based on some of your other posts on these forums, I'm going for (b)...
Internet is full of information. Anyone can post or upload whatever wants online.
But information is not knowledge. Knowledge involves experiences that either you have or you don't have. ( this is black or white.. no gray zones on this).
The really surreal thing is, that lot of people use internet information as proof for their claims without knowing who is the uploader of each information and what are his credentials.
So you can bring me one million urls here to show me that you are right and I can bring you another one million urls to prove you the opposite. How valid are this urls though?
You think that I'm telling you utter nonsenses. No problem. You can think whatever you want. It is your subjective ( based on information only ) view. It doesn't apply on me, it doesn't include my experiences and is not valid neither as a conclusion nor as a knowledgeable claim. And so we are even.
Keep on your nice discussion here.

No it's based on my experiences of TIme trials, road racing and time trials. In criterium racing amongst other cycle racing it is a common psychological tactic to nose breathe as you pass your opposition to show you are not trying but no one can sustain it when actually racing, not even professionals. Swimmers in fact breathe in through the mouth and out through the nose.
We simply are not going to agree here and even though you disregard my arguements as you assume they are based on written works and no experience it is you who in fact has not mentioned any experience but merely the opinion of your 'professional coach'. Just to satiate your desire, I could be found this year at the European Triathlon Championships amongst many other events and in my university days I competed in National TaeKwonDo competitions so have plenty of experience to confidently say that anybody working hard will require an open mouth in order to avoid a huge oxygen deficit.
Just let it go, we disagree on this subject and have quite clearly ruined to OP's topic through this needless d1ck swinging. If your future replies continue to fail to stick to the original subject matter rather than pursue a fruitless arguement with me then I won't reply to you out of respect for the OP0 -
I've always gone with the theory of 'results count' and no matter what people say you can't argue with the fact that the current WTT Champion rides with his mouth open. If it's good enough for him then it's good enough for me(that and the fact I'll die if I can't ride with my mouth open )Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Why are you laughing ? You did this the other day too, in the fixed gear training thread. Are you always that rude or you are so rude just for me? :?

As you'll see non of these athletes in so different sports, sprint with open mouth. They follow the technique "breathing from nose exhaling from mouth. Of course all of them have great aerobic capacity, they use their lungs better than every day athletes like us. But this comes with training and effective training comes with good technique.
While i disagree with you that you only need to inhale through your nose. You say exhale through your mouth, to do this you would need to open your mouth, exhaling is part of breathing you your theory fails on that count alone. As for slating people linking to information IMO that backs their point up more so that you just saying 'my personal trainer told me so'.0 -
Open. How else are you going to dribble?
