I'm still tranquilo - have confidence in Bell and Trott to build a decent stand, if I may be so blasé with the mockers...

Dammit! Thought I'd un-mockered the mockers by acknowledging the mockers...

This thread is useless without some geology and local cake information.

All I know is Nottingham has very old pub called 'the jerusalem' or something - and locals are known as 'me duck'

Fear not, it's all part of the mind games, let 'em think they have us...
or perhaps the pitch is a minefield and the Aussies will struggle to double figures, collectively.

    Jonny isn't hanging about.

To quote Dear Geoffrey, I'll reserve judgement till I've seen both sides bat.

God, I must be getting old - I find myself agreeing with him more these days...

Crazy day, just like 2005. Some horrible shots from the English lads. Bodes well for the series as a contest though...entertaining stuff.

Got to say, how thick is Finn (and Cook's captaincy). No real surprises except Agar and Hughes, two gash batting sides for the past one and a half years. Bloody Chef turning up for the series here.

Bairstow looks all sorts of dodgy as a specialist batsman, he may score a century, but he gets bowled far too often to be a top order player (and before anyone points out, don't think Tendulkar 2011-13 is worth his spot either).

Hmmn really not comfortable on the Stuart Broad incident, heard lots of comments saying an Aussie wouldn't have walked so what he did was fine but I struggle to see that as a justification.

I agree with the comments from some pundits, that the first two days both teams were carried away by the occasion and lost their heads a bit and now things have settled down into proper test cricket.

Whilst I can see where you are coming from (in an ideal world of cuddly bunnies :D) I have limited qualms about Broad standing his ground, though I'm amazed he held it together because it was farcical.
England were done like kippers by crap officiating on Day 2 with the Agar and Trott debacles.

Bowlers/fielders appeal all the time trying to force a decision from the umpire, knowing that the batsmen isn't out. This is no different to broad standing his ground forcing the umpire to make a decision.

The mantra of previous Aussie captains has been 'don't walk, that's what the umpire is for'.
Did Clark walk in 2010/11 when the dobber from Pietersen got him? No, then when he apologised afterwards for not walking he got slated.
You'll get some poor decisions, you'll get some favourable ones. It will level out over time.
There's one thing for sure, now Gilchrist has gone, there'll be no Aussie walking.

Hopefully what will come of it is better umpiring on and off the field, because frankly it's been shambolic at times so far.

Faux outrage and controversy aside, it's making for a reasonably entertaining test match; though I expect England to put it to bed tomorrow.
If Agar was given out on 6, and Trott wasn't then this game would most likely be already over, or a formality, by now.

Broad did cheat, and really isn't too different to what Ramdin did a few weeks ago where he claimed a bump ball catch. He knew he hit it, but he has an official seal of approval called a not out to go unsanctioned. That said, Australians are the last who can whinge about walking. Lehmann didn't, Symonds singlehandedly won a test or two by not walking despite smashing the ball.

Trott wasn't a debacle, he was out with the technology available, imo. It wasn't an umpiring error, maybe Sky's error, but with the technology deemed available/unavailable, it was out. Agar was out. Chris Rogers was not out. Cliche- you get some, you lose some.

Unfortunately though the umpiring will not change, there are only four umpires in cricket that are eligible for the next 9 tests, and the only one remaining is Tony Hill.
