So I got the paint shop proof for my custom R1 frame, yesterday. I gave the go ahead, so I should have the complete bike (being built by Swift Cycles in Spitalfields) in a couple of weeks. I'll be adorning it with Starley's "Works" finishing kit, Fulcrum Quattro, DA7900 and a Fizik Arione. More photos to follow, natch...

Bit boring for the amount you're going to be paying. Glam it up, smash some pink in there, maybe a spot of yellow

    MAYBE even some purple!

It might be boring, but it's exactly as I want it to look. I'm a fan of the minimalist approach.

Not a fan of that look, to be honest mate. I realise a paint job which I have chosen exactly to my tastes won't suit everyone. But I don't like garish designs, flashes of colour here and there or the out and out stealth look.

What do people think of going for red tape and saddle? The jury is still out for me on that one.

Nah, go for black tape, or the black tape with the red stitching through it... and black saddle with red stitching too.

Ah that's a nice idea. I've seen the tape, but not the saddle. Is that an Arione? (my arsebones are quite picky)

Cheers Tim. Next time I'm up North, I'll let you know!

Possibly yes, but this is Starley's standard procedure for any departure from their off-the-peg designs.

I wasn't going to bother, to be honest; the paint shop proof didn't exactly excite everyone! But anyway, here it is and I love it.

I can see the pics on my phone, but not on my work laptop. Maybe you have a work-filter issue as well?

Cheers! And yes, these are just lowly alloy (I think that's what "K:ium" is) rails. :) I took a plunge on the saddle colour, hoping the red would match.

It rides lovely. I know it sounds cliché, but it's light and responsive and silent. That's all I ask for!

It's not my table and it's not my shed. Just out of sight though, are loads of lovely sunflowers, two chocka pear trees, a lavender bush, a thriving herb table and loads of veg ready for autumn. Those are mine. :)

Cheers mate. I'll Google the frame you mention. A bit of research will help me pass time while working away from home [and the bike!]...

The Starley frames are open mould chinese made and Starley are very clear about this. They say the lay-up of the carbon is to their spec however. A LOT of manufacturers do this but try and keep quiet about it.
The track bike is the same as the Planet X. Their track wheels look very good value at half the price of Mavic!

Not strictly true; I specifically asked this question to Starley, here is their reply:
"Two of our frames are open mould (the T2 and Track frame) however we use a different material and ply compared to the same manufactures that are using those moulds. Think of it as a jelly mould, different mixtures make firmer jelly! The others are our designs - we do however use a rear stay mould design that's very similar to another manufacture on one of the road frames."

Looks greatt, FWIW I thought the paint scheme looked good, these look like good value for the money.

I see they are Manchester based in altricham, I might have a look in one day when passing, the aero version looks good and I like the idea of a custom paint job.
