I want. Only £599, assuming I ignore the additional di2 mechs, battery and wiring I would need. Oh, and I would have to get hubs for centre lock discs. Hmm, perhaps not yet then.

If they did a Di2 tripple right now i'd be seriously miffed and wished I'd got a different frame.....

No, no - you can use Shimano disc brakes with any disks, as such you could just reuse your existing wheelset.

They will work with any system of disc brake rotor (centre lock/6 bolt).

Centre lock is just the way of holding the disc to the wheel.

    £600 + . Ultegra Di2 front and rear mech £320, di2 Cable set £155 , Chain Cassette and Chainset £220ish. Total £1295 ish...

    Are you tempted?

I would if I wasn't about to spend three times that on a new man cave for my kayaks, bikes, tools and sanity. But not the chainset. It ugly.
  • Only problem is frames (excluding my cotic, and many CX frames) it remains:

That new Bianchi (looks pretty good appart from being the brand all to often splatered in crap green and ridden by bike to work scheme RLJ'ing monkeys)
Spesh Roubaix (as seen on the Sram Red disc tests)
    Volagi
    Culpret Croz blade
    Neil Pryde
    Eastway

I am sure one of the above has the wrong hub spacing and most are relaxed geometry but bring on a Canyon Aeroroad, Cervelo or maybe that new BMC and i'm there.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Have you thought about a Ti frame? Van Nicholas have them off the shelf and Enigma, Burls etc will make them.....

    Lynskey as well.

Not sure where the wiring would go though. Or the battery.

No, I'd consider going hydraulic when the price comes down, but the added cost of di2 means I'm out. To be fair the BB7s are great in terms of stopping power, but the hydraulic discs on my MTB just feel nicer.

That would be the advantage of a custom Ti from Burls or Enigma. The latter at least can do internal routing and I'm sure they could do something invitive with battery. Ithink there not seat post batteries out now..... Enigma did tell me they had done a few Di2 now. You could always call them....

I believe that Shimano said that they can only fit the hydraulic stuff in the lever on Di2 - which makes sense.

    Hoorah!

There's a couple of bits that don't quite work for me:

    - centre lock discs - I'd need to stick with my own
    - I have internal brake line routing - I could probably adapt to internally route my Di2

I was hoping to try the TRP HY-RDs first. Also just need to check the new Di2 shifter works with my first gen Di2 - I think it will

Should be ok but you'd do well to connect them to the s/w pack that allows for upgrades to the stuff on the bike. Shifters are just switches - the logic is shared between the front junction box, front mech and the battery mount. Ever seen a battery mount have its s/w updated? :)

I was holding out for Shimano's hydraulic offering but now that I've seen the price I think I'll be going down the TRP route. Plan is to sell the old Comtat commuter to pay for it and then buy one TRP to replace the BB7 on the front, all the remaining cash is then beer tokens

Yes - I'll take a look at it all.

Think I'll try the HY-RD first and see how those are before I commit to full hydraulic. I am VERY tempted though....

Ultegra - which I think has become the Shimano standard for both systems

didnt know i was meant to be

you'd only need shifters and calipers. So not that expensive

Just £600 plus whatever I spent on internal Di2 cable (not sure whether I couldn't just adapt my external cable), some nice new bar tape and some shiny new discs

Though I suppose I could recoup a few quid from the Di2 shifters and BB7s if I wanted to

you wouldnt need to change the di2 wiring at all

As UE said, you can use your old 6 bolt discs as long as they are the right size, 140 or 160mm I think it said. BB7s should sell well on the Bay and I'd think di2 shifters would fetch good money. So a £300 upgrade.

So... having thought ahead and bought a bike with cable discs I can now upgrade to hydraulics so long as I'm willing to buy a full electronic shifting set to match. Any one else see the early adopter price gouge they just did there?
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Yes - I could get away with my current discs - it's just an excuse to buy some shiny new ones  The front disc is quite worn and, because of the way in which BB7s work, wear isn't particularly even.

I can do this reasonably cheaply I suspect.

Well, as a disc and Di2 early adopter, I'm reasonably happy. I'd have been less happy if they had changed the Di2 standard.

That's the great thing about standards. There are so many to choose from.... :?
