RideLondon Surrey 100 on a hybrid??

I have a place in the Ride London Surrey 100. I was hoping to get a road bike by the summer but that hasn't materialised. I have a Specialized Sirrus Sport 2012 which is a hybrid and I was wondering whether this will be feasible (I’m not looking at breaking any records - just finishing within the cut off time). I have a really good level of fitness having spent many summers bashing the hills of Andalucía and did a marathon a few months ago so I know I have the stamina but not the right machine :x .

I did a pretty hilly (Dulwich, Crystal palace, gypsy hill, Bromley, Biggins hill airport) 52 mile ride this weekend in 3hrs 50 mins which included stopping at a zillion traffic lights - while this seems ok I probably have to take into account the congestion on the day and the fact that what goes up descends very fast so those hills most definitely helped.

Just looking for a bit of perspective, whether it’s possible or just wishful thinking on my part.

You'll be a bit slower than with a drop bar road bike but i think a sirrus is a bit like a flat bar road bike so you'll be alright. Perhaps add some bar ends to give your hands a different position as flat bars would i suspect start to get a bit uncomfortable on hands and wrists on a 100 mile ride

With fast tyres and good aerodynamic position you can ride 100 miles fast even on a mountain bike.
A pair of bar ends mounted near the stem would offer you a good alternative aero position.

In our fast pack at this year’s Etape Caledonia we had a guy on a hybrid that was flying along! So no problem doing the London 100 on one IMO.
