#cotepicarde trend on twitter, also @aussielarry (Velo UK) is also tweeting about it.

Got caught by a 4 man break with 40km remaining, sat with them for 10k then went back on the attack with a young German rider. Last I saw they were both 30 secs on the peleton with 25km left.
  • Eddie Dunbar and one of the chasers who caught him were eventually reeled in by the bunch at the 18km mark. He didn't make the top-ten in the end but probably won the "panache" prize!

  • He seems to be perfect for the Sky way of doing things. Brilliant between 100-30k to go, then average from there on out #winkyface

  • I hope ED doesn't do too much hard racing too soon. He is only 18 and he has a long career ahead of him.

Dan Martin picked up two broken ribs in his LBL crash. They didn't stop him finishing the Tour of Romandie though, albeit an hour down. Hopefully he can be fit for the Tour.

There are fun and games (sort of) going on at the Ras and it is only Day 2. The Stage 1 winner and yellow jersey holder has been kicked off the race for receiving an alleged physical tow (hanging onto the rear window) from his team car after suffering a puncture and mechanical in the closing kilometres of today's stage.

Regardless of Reda's infraction, the tone of this first article is poor with regard to both Reda's and Elli's respective histories. Both the race director and Reda then sadly indulge in some mildly xenophobic commentary. And it wasn't even an Irish Commissaire who threw him off the race!!!

Well it is interesting but he clearly should go. He is also not the sort of rider you want in the race, having being banned as recently as 2013. Good riddance.

Things have settled down a fraction on the Ras.

ISD Team manager Alberto Elli has managed to get himself kicked off the race after confronting the race commissaires last night.

David Vignano from Elli's ISD team wins today's stage.

Paul Kimmage's dad, Christy, has also passed away. In his time, he was one of Ireland's top amateurs. RIP.

Ryan Mullen takes 3rd place overall (and wins the U23 category) at the Ras. Not bad for his first time in the race.
Damien Shaw (who also pilot a tandem for the Para Squad) once again rode out of his skin and got anther podium position on the final stage. He had 2x 2nd place stage finishes as well, proving again he's the best domestic racer in Ireland.

    Final General Classification, Ras 2015.

1 Lukas Postlberger (Tirol Cycling Team) 27 hours 38 mins 39 secs
2 Joshua Edmondson (An Post Chain Reaction) at 1 min 5 secs
3 Ryan Mullen (An Post Chain Reaction) at 2 mins 19 secs
4 Robert Partridge (NFTO) at 3 mins 10 secs
5 Aaron Gate (An Post Chain Reaction) at 4 mins 29 secs
6 Jaap de Man (Team 3M) at 5 mins 18 secs
7 Martyn Irvine (Madison Genesis) at 6 mins 3 secs
8 Aidis Kruopis (An Post Chain Reaction) at 7 mins 28 secs
9 Alex Frame (New Zealand National Team) at 7 mins 31 secs
10 Ian Richardson (Dublin UCD) at 10 mins 1 secs

Lukas Postlberger's team van was broken into overnight and some tools, spares and a damaged bike were stolen. Thieving bastards. The yellow jersey's spare bike, called into service after yesterday's crash, wasn't stolen, thankfully.

"Amateur" Damien Shaw won the Irish National RR Champs today. Although with a serious lack of Pro talent in the race, it was slightly easier.

I've know Damien for years as he's been on the pilots for Paralympic tandems for a few different people. Hopefully riding the World Champs in a few weeks. And he's a part-time fireman to boot.

Probably more impressive was the ride of little Eddie Dunbar who came second overall and won't he U23 title. Once again proving his class by riding away from he field (with the exception of Shaw). This kid is definitely one to watch.

Hadn't realised Stephen Roche had another lad coming through. Alexis riding the Junior Tour of Wales at the moment and doing well in the sprint competition. Think he's still a first year junior too.

    Interesting move.
Having the Irish Jersey possibly has commercial value for An Post.

Oddly I was wondering a couple of days ago what had happened to Dunbar. I was worried he might be another promising junior who'd quit the sport. Glad to see that's not the case, that's some result!
