Caught part of the american one whilst i was over there last summer, travelling down route 66. Usually have some interesting cars in the lineups, anything spectacular this year?

There are plenty of great cars this year, I was hoping to go to the finish party in Monaco but will be away on business but currently both front cars are running my software.

I did three stages of it a few years back.nthe videos of it make it look a lot better than it was. It used to be a hell of a lot cheaper than it is now too, but its full of billionaires kids with more oney than sense, we thought there would be some car passion going on when they were all just driving dads toys etc. one guy blew the engine up on a mucialago, so hired one for two days, crashed that, dad arranged a third to be delivered the day after. He didnt give a toss and after that it took the edge off as when hou looked at it 90%of thr people were the same. Its good fun at time but much better to just go for a drive around europe. If you google the year a guy killed an old couple in a porsche that was the year i went on it.

I did the same event Jeff, I was in the red 430 cab, the guy Nick Morley took a lot of flack for what in fact wasnt his fault as the guy driving was going the wrong way down a street and veered off into a tree, Ive never found all the facts but one died at the scene and the other after the shock of hearing about the death of his/her partner.
As you say though, prices have gone up a bit, it was £5k once but now £60-£80k.

I've seen the Jackass episode where the team take on the Gumball rally. Does look like fun, including the armed escort through Latvia.

I've done the UK version a few times in a variety of things, but that was coming for 20 years ago now. A good mate did start one of the earlier ones, but bailed out after a few days on account of all the idiots - he didn't want to be involved or associated with the behaviour.

All seems a bit like the 'Ring - which we stopped that once it became mainstream. First time I went there in '96 it was pretty quiet. Remained that way up until 2003 by which time it had got rather silly. We sadly called it a day when as a group of six we had five very near misses in the first three days of our annual week long bash down to the sheer volume of accidents waiting to happen on GB plates.

I had a heavily modified 190E 2.3-16 that year, and nearly had a 997 embedded in my bootlid several times as the middle aged berk couldn't accept he couldn't keep with my 25yr old Merc through the tight stuff. He eventually got past me coming into Pfantzgarten - it was scary to then watch this guy hamfistedly bullying his Porsche up to the second Karusell. I said to my passenger he was going to get bitten. Sure enough, couple of hours later he shut the circuit for several hours and put himself in hospital when he got it wrong at Flugplatz.
  • isnt that the thing with the marvellous burt reynolds in?????!!!!

in reality i when i have seen bits of it in the news or on tv, it seems like a bunch of wan*ers with too much money, spoilt rich kids and not enough respect of authority just because they are rich.

no offence to anyone here who has partcipated and u think different, this is just how it has come across to me in the admittedly brief bits of it ih ave read/seen.

    +1

I'm sure not EVERYONE in it is like that, but the ones I've seen on TV sure as sh8t are.

The French absolutely hate it, and they're getting tough on the speeding. Just last week a Bentley and some other fast car were caught near to where I live in Brittany at 190km/h, so fast, but not crazy fast. The car was impounded immediately, licence confiscated and a big fine, can't remember exactly how much.

Think if you were cycling on a B-road and a Ferrari came round the corner taking most of the road at 90mph. It's not cool and it's not funny, that's what racetracks are for.

(Coming from someone who only recently sold his Ducati 999!)

Ive done it 3 times now and you are right, it does have a lot of people who do not care about the cost, I was once following a car and the engine blew up in front of me (i have the video somewhere) and he simple pulled over, got into his support ferrari and continued.
I also knew a guy who had a koenigsegg and the filler cap went and as the car used many VW parts he simply purchased a brand new golf, took off the filler cap, gave the keys to one of the girls that worked at the dealership and continued.
He is broke now BTW :(

It's not so much the 'not caring about cost' bit that bothers me - that's fine - if you've got it and choose to spend it on fast cars, great.

It's more the' I don't give a sh8t about anyone else attitude' that bugs me, like if you happen to clip a few peasants on the way through France, you just hope the blood will polish out.....(an advantage in driving a nice red Ferrari I suppose.....)

+1 Burt Reynolds :D it's best not to watch his films anymore ( Cannonball, Smokey & the Bandit, Hooper) because they've dated so badly and just remember Burt as a Legend! :D

There's a full length episode of the Jackass Gumball Rally available that's well worth watching and may bring back memories for some that have taken part. I just can't post the link and vid with my phone, maybe someone else can find it. 42mins running time.

Its actually the audi thats second at the moment :)
Being able to tow a trailer at 220kph without being pulled over and also cover 3 times the ground before refilling kind of helps :)

That differs in almost every possible detail from what both prosecution and defense claim happened (and they didn't agree on much).

If you look at the picture you will see that there is evidence clearly describing what happened within the image you posted. The country in question is VERY corrupt as I am sure you are aware, needless to say, what I said was correct.

It's all a bit pathetic really. Save yourself a fortune and just take that next bend on a bicycle a couple of mph faster at a couple of degrees greater angle of lean if you want (relatively) @rse twitching thrills with less danger to other road users.

Im not sure pathetic is the right word, we could say that about Richard Branson flying around the world in a balloon costing millions, its his money so up to him.

I do agree however that the behaviour of some is an issue, many take their wealth without thought of others who have nothing but I guess if thats what you have been bought up in ?

It's public roads Vtech, 'competitors' will take chances on the basis that they are wealthy enough to pay their way out of fines but you can't solve a fatal RTA with a cheque book.

Motor racing, and this is what it is, belongs on circuits or roads closed to the public.

it was an original option and is the more "friendly" to drive. When finished it will be fully road legal and road registered as a new car in Sweden.

is he mad? has a road bike with gears and a SS MTB.

    That's not entirely true.

If you're rich enough, justice will usually be on your side in something like a fatal RTA... even in this country.
