And damn, I should have realised before my PTP pick, Cav turns 28 today. Extra motivation to get over that climb and win?

Birthday boy with his cake at the start today

There's the reason Cav won't get over the final climb today

After 111km gap is 4'40", there was an attack in the break but all back together now
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

On that basis who will be crying on the team bus because they drank too much sugary drinks & lost their bag, you know how it goes there is always at least one.

Phinney abandon. Saddles sores. All that riding in wet clothes cant be good for that sort of thing.

Especially for a rider like Phinney who says he avoids even mild paracetamol painkillers in racing.

Frankly, if it's bad now, what's it going to be like on Friday when they ascend the Stelvio?

The stage is likely to be diverted from Ponte over towards Merano. Weather in Bormio for Friday is predicted to be 5c and snowing. It's just been one of those Giros. We were baking on the Galibier only an hour or so before the riders came through on Sunday.

Interesting conundrum for Astana. Need to keep Caruso under control at 5 mins or so. But allows other teams glimpse of glory if they can close it down a bit prior to final climb.

No need for an apology :D

TBH I don't think he will have anyting else on his Palmares by then either either...maybe World TT Champion if he's very lucky.

Must admit, after all his talk I was more than a little upset with his Paris-Roubaix performance.

Fat lady clearing the pipes for Caruso 8)

Frenzied attacks in breakaway. 2mins gap. 48kms.

Sean talking about waste of energy ahead of forthcoming high mountain stages. He needs to see a weather forecast.

Gap down sub 2 min. Any chance Cav can pick up any points at the second TV - maybe another 20k, or does he now think he can get over hills?

Breakaway riding flat-out for last 10km. Gap down to 1:30s. 40km.

Long straight roads. The 15 second gap won't be enough to keep Sella's group out of sight.
