Having spent the best part of a fortnight in Irvine recently, I can safely say that I would hate to live back in Scotland. Crappy weather, don't drink Irn Bru, don't smoke, like sunshine. Still has the shameful sectarian attitude too. Living in Kent has spoiled Scotland for me, it is such a poor place, really depressing IMHO. :|

Kent? Yeah I long for the likes of Margate and Ramsgate. In fairness there are some lovely little villages there. The climate is much warmer I will give you that, but our surroundings cannot be touched anywhere in the UK, although the Lakes come quite close. As for the Sectarian nonsense, you didn't have to move to England, just the east coast of Scotland, we don't tolerate that p!sh over here.

Irvine is no different to any low employment town or city in England while pretty looking Kent is full of curtain twitching Daily Mail reading Tories (soon to be UKIPPERS) ;-)

As for sectarianism, what the Coo said. None of it round here, up North or down South. It's a small part of the West Coast that thinks it's in Belfast 20 years ago (no disrespect to Belfast btw).

I rode under blazing Fife sunshine on Saturday and couldn't get the smile off my face! Then did a ride through Fife, Perth & Kinross and back into Angus on Sunday and discovered a beautiful climb http://app.strava.com/segments/697839

    I love this country :-)

Dunno, I left Scotland as soon as I could ( left home at 16), just knew deep down I didn't like it, most of the people and the mindset. That aside I am sure it is lovely, but only if you like it.

I love Kent. I live on the edge of the medway towns and swale, not far from the weald either, lovely bit of the country, its warm and open minded. Just don't go to Chatham that often. :D

Unfortunately, I am in Irvine every 4 weeks. What a hole and only a stone's throw from Kilmarnock (another hole). Wishaw however has got to be one of the sh1ttiest towns in Scotland.

Once you get north of the Central belt, then you really are in 'Scotland'. Oban, Fort William, Calender, Pitlochry, Inverness etc etc - stunning and less down trodden.

    Ah!

I've done this from the other side - the climb from Abernethy is pretty good too. I must try the climb from the strathmiglo side.

Central belt is pretty grim. I used to live in Edinburgh and it is pretty good as cities go but I don't regret moving north at all. I can head out the door and after 5 minutes cycling I'm in countryside. Lots of lovely hills nearby too. Might head further north if work allows......

Beautiful ride today - 26 degrees up here! :o:D

Well we use Celsius down here not Fahrenheit, and that's only -3.3 C, not bad for Scotland but still a bit chilly for us southern softies.

Me too, and every time I've come plummeting down the other side I've always thought 'I bet it's nice riding up this way'. It was. It’s a constant climb with no sudden steep rises like the other side, so you can get into a nice tapping rhythm and the view is lovely. I’m going to do it again this weekend.

More observations from that there London.

There is a much higher percentage of smokers than either Edinburgh or Aberdeen.

I won't comment on Irvine. Never been there and have no intentions of going.
