V strong heartbeat after intervals session – normal?

A couple of times recently (although not every time) I've had a weird thing with my heart after doing a threshold intervals training session.
For a good 12 hours or so afterwards my heart is beating really strongly - strong enough to be very noticeable / a bit distracting and makes it hard to get to sleep. Its not necessarily racing (although HR is raised a bit ~66ish bpm), not irregular at all, just the heartbeat feels very strong.
Never noticed it before as a result of riding, just recently, and whenever its happened it follows an after-work intervals session.
Does anyone else get this? Should I get myself down the doctor's asap?
