Mines a 26 mile round trip to Great Yarmouth. Not too many hills or traffic in Norfolk! Been doing this for the last several years, all year round (got rid of the car) At some point I may have to work in Norwich which would be a 50 mile round trip.I often wonder if its achievable to do 50 mile round trip 5 days a week with someone like me who has a base level of fitness? Or would I need to rely on a car for some of it? Is there anyone out there doing 50 miles a day 5 days a week all year round?0

16 miles from Teignmouth to Exeter. A bit lumpy for a couple of miles then flat as a pancake along the river and canal.0
-
6 miles each way unless I chose the other bridge over the river then its 25 each way, unless I build a raft hmm, maybe I will call McGuyver - I can offer him 1 inner tube, a biro and half a bag of maltersers I am sure he can bang something together.0

15 miles each way for me, 1/3 london roads, 1/3 paved canal track, 1/3 gravel canal track... Just about to hit my first 500miles riding at least 3-4 days a week and other than murdered knees its going pretty well.
Bloody windy at the moment though...0 -
6 miles each way which means that I can do it 5 days a week on a fixed and not worry about recovery, drinks etc,
Not really any opportunities for adding loops due to a lack of quiet roads and also small children waiting for me at home"I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"

7 miles each way...it's a pretty sh*ty route , too many lights, too many cars, and not enough options...no hills though...0

Hi all
My commute is 21 miles round trip into Edinburgh along the Glasgow road.
I would be grateful if anyone could share some advice regarding over-training. I cycled everyday mid Feb to end of April and it absolutely drained me. Is this normal? My legs seem to never recover. I'm 28, good weight and use a suitable hybrid.0 -
It depends what direction I ride. Its currently 8.1 miles with 600ft of elevation done in 2 hills (the only hard parts for me). I did start on the shortest route wich is 5.9 miles but I prefer the route the longer ride is so I do that instead.0

Now that I commuted in for the first time today for almost 3 months, I can add mine - 12.5 miles each way, SE London to Central.
Loads more temporary traffic lights/roadworks than I recall!Specialized Allez Elite 2011 *NEW*
Specialized Sirrus Elite 20110 -
Was doing 32 miles per day 4 days per wek. Then I moved office and my commute went down to 21 per day 5 days per week. Then I moved and the commute is now 17 per day 5 days per week. I go longer on the way home a couple of times per week, usually about 20 miles instead of the 8.5.
My commute is now 70% country lanes and I have no traffic lights at all. Bliss.0 -
35 mile round trip 5 days a week - took about 6 weeks to overcome the shock to the system (was relatively fit beforehand but from running not cycling) but has been relatively easy since. Friday evening headwind home never welcome however...0

8 1/2 miles each way through West London. No real hills but lots of traffic lights and nodders!RIP commute...
Sometimes seen bimbling around on a purple Fratello Disc or black and red Aprire Vincenza.0 -
Mine is about 25miles return trip, that is the long way around, direct route is just under 20 miles return trip but I never do it, nearly every bit of my commute is marked on strava so I never take it easy. It is much quicker for me to cycle it, by car it takes 1hr 10mins in the morning, and takes me 42mins by bike on the long way. looking to get a 2nd bike for racing as commuting is taking it's toll on my racer with all the bad weather this year.0

12 mile round trip, mostly on old railway line track then a mile or so into Durham- love my commute, just the right distance not to become a chore as it's only half an hour at a gentle pace, plus i'm saving a fortune on petrol!! Enjoy0

Mine is between 45-50 miles I do it 2-3 times a week.
As part of the Trek cyclimas pro commuter team I try to encourage people to cycle more. For lots of us commuting is the only real chance to get any miles in.
Love to get any feedback on how we can get Britain cycling.0 -
Between 12 and 14 each on any one of 3 routes and between 500 and 800 feet of climbing depending on route chosen. All on rural roads apart from the last mile of industrialised stuff - lots of lorries to keep clear of. Try to do this most days but choose to drive in once every couple of weeks to replenish towels, clean clothes etc. in my locker. I'm a shiftworker so a lot of my riding is in the dark regardless of the time of year - it will be 1am before I head home tonight. On this plus side this means virtually no traffic so decent lights makes it fairly safe.
Been doing this for about a year now, lost over 2 stone and cut about 15 minutes off my average journey time each way. It's hard at the start but you'll be amazed how quickly you start looking for detours to add a few miles or climbs on those rare sunny warm days.0 -
Just under 37 miles round trip with 1100ft of climbing (roughly 550ft each way) from Sutton Coldfield to Coventry. No showers at work but the local gym let me shower for free! Bike is parked either behind a screen in the reception area or in the Board Room! Currently doing it two or three days a week subject to the weather with one day by car to bring in clean clothes/take home the dirty...0

17 miles each way. Was doing it twice a week with a goal of 4 days a week. Currently trying to do 3 days which is quite hard. My fitness seems to be taking an age to come back after a long winter of no riding0

21mile round trip for me, SE London to Central, and I agree with the comment above, its amazing how fast your body can start to see this as 'normal', the thought of it for most people is enough for them to feel feint.0

26 miles on the fixie round trip!0
-
14 miles each way. 5 days a week since mid Feb (previously was 3 times/week for a year or two)________________________
So it goes ...0 -
Currently 10 miles each way.
However I have just been told that I may be working on a placement for six months which is 17 miles away. I think I'm actually quite looking forward to the extra miles0 -
18 miles each way, each week I normally extend one of the rides to 32 or 50 though. Currently I do this 5 times a week with the odd 4 day week thrown in, it's nice getting on the bike after a day off and feeling like the bionic man!0

Shortest route is a 13 mile round trip, but have started adding more to it. On Friday I did 40 miles, today is wet so will probably be less. Unfortunately I get to work from home once a week and then on two others I have to take the child to the minders, so at best I get to commute only twice a week :-(0

Ditto without the roundabouts but virtually all downhill to work and then all up hill on the way home.0 -
-
19 miles round trip, mostly five days a week, involve climbs not serious ones though.0
-
4 miles each way, all on roads.
It's not much so I don't hang about and try and push myself most of the way.0
