  • You aren't missing anything - it's nonsense. If you want a bigger platform SPD pedal (assuming you don't already), you could try the single-sided 'touring' ones. A bigger cleat produces a more positive feel and greater comfort to some riders, and the SPD system uses a necessarily small one; that's about it.

But if using a very stiff SPD shoe the likely hood is you would never tell the difference.

If a bigger cleat provides this then its not exactly going to make pedalling worse so.. not nonsense

Ive never said the difference is huge at all but for overall consistency they make total sense

Because of the stiff sole it may well feel that way sure

'Not worse' is not the same as 'better', is it?

No-one is suggesting that it's unreasonable to want comfort (though if you want that I'd recommend a gentleman's bike with a sprung Brooks; the ultimate in speed weaponry); merely that that doesn't mean that the power transfer is more effective. If that is so, please proffer the statistics to prove it; otherwise use the pedals you like and be happy. :)

Not being worse was putting it mildly. Taking into consideration any chance/type of stroke inconsistency etc i still stick to my judgements

    Agreed
