For my first 100 miler I started early (6.30) took the first 70 odd miles a bit easy then absolutely hammered the final loop which is our chaingang route. And was still home by 12 ish
Plenty of food, plenty of drink. Have fun.0 -
Nothing out of the ordinary food wise. I think people make it seem to much of a big deal.
Porridge and banana before.
Soreen and assorted energy bars during.
Rego recovery shake after.0 -
One thing thats awkward about long group rides is eating in a bunch - especially if you're struggling opening a bar - to keep pockets light on the last 100 I did I had 2 bars cut in half so I could just pull them out and eat them - also for variety I made 2 rice cakes from this chap

oh and a banana - you probably wont need that much with a cafe stop or two - but bananas are always good, as are

What I did as well was have one bottle of water with these in (only need take a few tablets with you)

and one with a carb drink in
The key I found was to eat regularly early on in the ride - and to grab a nibble at traffic lights etc - it sso easy to get dragged along with the group and not refuel.
Sounds a great day - i've a new frame I need to build up - so maybe next time - but good breakfast - eat and drink early on and rehydrate /refuel well at the cafe - enjoy it sounds a brilliant day - hope the weather is good for you all.
BTW the trough isnt that bad a climb you'll probably waste a load more energy dodging potholes - haha. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
Cheers guys. Cleat it's a pity your not coming then i can work out who you are as you said you would be on the wheel of a Pinarello so that would be Ste or Dean. I've stocked up on the Zero Extreme tabs and some SIS energy bars and will take some Soreen and a Banana. Hopefully my pockets are big enough for it all. As for the Trough i'm not too worried now as i have had a look on Google maps and doesn't seem that bad it's similar to the Beacon maybe.
I will report back Monday how i got on.0 -
Cleat's advice is bang on. I second the cutting open of your bars for ease of eating on the move and those rice cakes are the bomb!
If you can get some High5 2:1 sachets take three. One in each bottle pre ride and one in your back pocket. They’re great for topping up carbs. A few sips every 10 to 15 mins will do the trick.
Have a big breakfast and then eat every 20 mins after the first hour. You’re not out to lose weight – you’re out to ride 100 miles!
No doubt someone will be along in a sec to tell you that eating on the bike is overrated and they can do a 400k audax on nothing but the sweat off their beard and a strip of old sandal leather. Please ignore them ;-)0 -
Well it was just short of 100 by 6 miles The Trough was tough as was Jeffery Hill but i managed them and feel much better for doing it.0

I think I would have ridden round in circles for 6 miles just to say I had done it....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847
