Why are Trek bikes not very popular?

    Not really.

Trek is, as you can see above, my winter bike.

I've had lots, and they are all tools to do a job; from training to racing.

Majority of mass market bike frames (and yes, that includes so called niche Italian marques) are made in a handful of factories in the far east. Then they take these same frames and hang equipment that is available to any manufacturer on them.

Like I said, bikes are pretty much all the same these days. There's precious little that will make me take notice, I couldn't care less what people ride.

I wouldn't normally buy a Trek because i find the name a bit tacky. Trek. It just doesn't inspire. That said, i am a bit vain!
However, i do like the Trek Domane, it is probably the only Trek i would look at. I can apply this mindset also to Giant & Scott. Just no appeal. However, if the rider feels good on & it works for them then who are we to say otherwise? Personally i ride a Bianchi, Canyon, & Specialized. I love em all equally because they are all joys to ride & i have spent my own time & money building them up. I couldn't care less if Specialiazed is common but Canyon isn't. They are only bikes & have the same things on that most other bikes do.
  • Ok, so for some on here it's all about vanity. Fair enough and if that's your bag good for you.

However, the most common staple advice on this website to new riders wondering what road bike to buy is go to your lbs and try a few out, buy what suits you best. Now for most people on this fair isle, that will lead them to a local shop selling Trek, Giant, Specialized, Merida. The attitude from some on here seems to fly against that and says instead , buy the most random piece of kit you can as you will stand out. The bike may not suit you or fit, however you will get some admiring glances so go you :? .

As I said earlier, I have recently purchased a Trek so maybe it makes me biased however it was a bike I was able to try and buy from my lbs and I loved the look and feel of it. As others have said, if we all start avoiding bikes used by drug cheats we'd all be in our garages with a welding torch! :D

It's my third Trek, and I have loved them all. I realise a lot of people don't seem to like them, but so what? I like them - and that should be all that matters to ME. Everyone who has met my Project One Trek, including lots of French cyclists in the Alps, has salivated over it :P Climbs like a beast, descends beautifully, and if you ask me, it's a head-turner.

Still, not everyone likes Trek's, and that is fine with me. I admit I did not feel happy about the whole LA thing, but I'll be damned if I will let that spoil my enjoyment of what for ME is a dream bike :D

    Wow.

At the risk of continuing an already extremely dispiriting thread, anyone who is so concerned about what you ride rather than how you ride is not a great incentive to buy something 'niche'.

    Cinellis? Bottechias?

Please. Superannuated Italian brand names sold on the basis of tradition?

Please. Cinelli is now mass-produced in factories in the far east. I look down at my handsome vintage Cinelli bars and stem and I shake my head at you.

Got Cinelli bars, had Cinelli stems, even the "stick a picture of your favourite lady" on stems...

But the brand, if we are discussing brands, hasn't been high up any kind of bicycle that wins races league...

Agree, reckon at least 40% are Spesh.

Do people really not buy Trek because of LA???? Look at the history books, avoiding doppers rides leave you walking....

Treks sell because they a very good bike i don't think he will effect their sales in the slightest!

Crikey, why so butthurt mate? The overall view seems to be Treks are ok but that some folk prefer less fashionable brands. I swear your the only guy here who could ride a bike blindfolded and tell us the exact make and model. Your taking this assumed slight on Trek very personally. Take your bra off and take a deep breath.

    This.

The contradiction on this site is sometimes extraordinary. Get the feeling you can't win especially as a newbie. Strangest thing is I find this so entertaining because there really are some dognuts on here who need some anger management help and think it's ok to be arrogant cox because they can hide behind a name on a laptop. Brilliant. Keep it up lol

Oh and Cancellara had a pretty good win on a Trek today woohoo :P

Just to make something very clear: whilst it is true that I spent many hours designing the visual appeal of my Project One bike, I already new exactly what specification and fit I wanted. This was to be my third Trek bike in 6 years, and my fifth road bike in 30 years. I got it (and all earlier bikes) from my LBS.

For me, the only sadness is that by the time I had sufficient disposable income to buy my gorgeous Project One, I was way past my racing days, had put on 10 kg and could no longer climb Alp d'Huez as I used to do :(

Having the opportunity to design a bike which for me was visually pleasing (as well as being technically just right), was a wonderful thing, and I consider myself very lucky.

I really dont give a crap about LA and the Trek link its not the manufacturers that are cheats.
So i guess some narrow minded people wouldnt buy a Ford because the of the equal rights for woman in the 60's and people wont fly British Airways for there dirty tricks campaign in the 90's against Virgin.

Sadly they dont do one or else my son would be riding one. I'll have to plump for the mass produced brands like Trek, Specialized Giant, etc,etc for that.
