Today's ride

Hi all i just thought I'd share today's ride details with you. What a fantastic and sunny day it was to get the miles in. We decided to take a trip over to Langsett cafe in South Yorkshire for a change. Today's ride was literally like riding in the alps at the end of a ski season. Unreal......
The weather was cold but very sunny and from start to finish the roads were snow lined. The higher we went the deeper it got. I've attached some pics for you all to see, and for those that can't quite understand how bad the snow was that hit this last week, At its deepest on these pics it was probably 16ft deep.
So who else managed a ride today and what was it like?

Good effort. We did 55 but had a disaster and had to cut it short. I snapped my rear hanger and had to turn the bike into a Fix to get me home....Look 595 ultra - F+F for sale.....

A swift 35 mile spin round the country lanes of Northumberland. No snow, we escaped the worst of it this week.
In some parts it felt like spring had arrived and I could feel some warmth in the sun. In other parts I was grinding into an obnoxious baltic headwind and being blasted with sleet as my toes and fingers froze.
However I clocked up my fastest time round the usual route and my average speeds are rising rapidly, which is pleasing.0 -
Did 28 miles today, including a up and back right the way along Southend seafront, felt like crap (i.e. really unfit!) all the way round, bit it's a great feeling to be out on the road and I'm planning a forty miler for tomorrow.0

!03K around the Peaks-some of it actually riding, the rest pushing through deep snow and we didnt seek out the smaller roads.Someone in the County Council who contracted out the snowploughing ought to ponder why the road is clear from the farmhouse to the nearest gate?Whats the solution? Just pedal faster you baby.

First time out for 2 weeks today. Only did 35 miles with 1800 ft of climbing and boy was it hard work.
Lovely sun and dry roads, though still only 4 degrees.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Gentle 60k today with about 800m climbing, been off for around a month due to one thing or another so was nice to get the legs working again.
Very similar conditions to the OP round here actually. Had to plan the route carefully as we're still got a good few roads closed and impassable.0 -
I love those pics. Sadly I wimped out riding today, I need to learn to mtfu big time2010 GT Series 4 ultegra wheels & brakes

Faced some similar conditions, many roads down to one lane, 6ft drifts will take some time to thaw. Quite windy out there too, struggled a bit, roads in terrible shape, not helped by having tyres at 120psi.

F*** me remind me not to cross you.... You must be part of the seriously hard gang. Hats off to you pal..... No way on this earth am I ready for shorts yet. I had 3 top layers on today, proper wrapped up and didn't even think of unzipping anything. But then you have seen the pics, it's still pretty cold here....Look 595 ultra - F+F for sale.....

This pic is taken just across the valley from Holme moss. Holme moss is closed and clearly so, when u look across it looks like you could ski it never mind ride it. I was told today by a passing cyclist that wood head was open but snakes pass is still shut. And I can't honestly see it being open by Monday.Look 595 ultra - F+F for sale.....

Did 25 miler today around coniston plus 2 sides of hawkshead hill, turned for home at 1pm. as the day looked to be going down. Some snow in the fields & we had to walk for about 50 yards in the narrow lanes, surprising how snow can block your cleats.0

Lovely and dry in the New Forest. Basically the last 30m miles of the upcoming New Forest Sportive in 2 weeks.
42 miles and 1600ft of climbing. Solo and pushed a punchy 20mph for the 1st 35. I was pretty chuffed but totally dead for the 7 miles home. I pottered back so gently, so tired and exchausted, I thought I wasn't going to make it!
Top 5 on a local segment, which was a bonus

Amazing pics those - thanks for sharing.
No snow darn sarf, but cold, cloudy and windy again today.
A few of us managed a 100k ride - cake stop at half way helped
Just wish it would warm up as I am sick of having to get dressed in umpteen layers for every ride.0 -
I'm going the other way tomorrow and into the dales, usual weekly route..... I haven't been up that way since the snow hit and I understand quite a few roads are closed and impassable so if any more good photo opportunities arise ill take them and post them again here tomorrow...Look 595 ultra - F+F for sale.....

Snake Pass and Woodhead Pass are both now open, but snake is narrow in places where they have cut through the drifts.
I believe Holme Moss is still closed as are a few other minor roads.....................................................................................................

Well just got back, nothing really exciting to report on today. The snow has taken a serious hi this last 2 days with the sun and seems to be melting pretty quickly. Still snow at the sides of the roads but that's about it. All the back lanes we ride on we're all rideable without any problems. Just had to be careful over snow melt incase any blk ice sat under it.... Managed another 45 today with 2500ft climbing. It's getting harder to resist the temptation to get the summer bike out when the sunshine is poking his head like today though.... Hopefully not long now. 8)Look 595 ultra - F+F for sale.....

Met my missus for a coffee at a local vineyard that's 17 miles into a regular 36 miler I do. The last 3 miles was brutal as the wind picked up and it was trying to snow. To my eternal shame the bike went in the car as I didn't really fancy the slog home
If I'd been with my regular cycling mate I'd have toughed it out. Got the motion in Mercia next Sunday, no wimping out on that0 -

Lovely ride again around the new forest. Went North this time. Took a few home made brownies which made all the difference!
Seen a chap out on a C59 - looks like 150th anniversary colourway (White with hints of blue/red/green) That's twice I've ridden up there this month and twice I've seen him! White castelli jacket.
